I am rebuilding a small bathroom. Behind the shower wall, where the plumbing is, is about 15 inches of space, which I would like to use for storage. The bathroom will have a light/fan combo that go on together, so the moisture in the bathroom will hopefully, be kept to a minimum. My question is whether MDF would be stable enough to make the door face for this storage space, or is it going to swell up and fall apart in time. Obviously, it would be primed and painted prior to installation. Thank you.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider using MDF in a bathroom, especially if you are talking about a door front. Way too much moisture present, even if the MDF is primed and painted.
Just my opinion...

*Dave they do make Extearor MDF which would be fine , I have used veneered MDF panels for years with no problems in baths and kitchens. For a painted cabinet look in to Fine Paints of Europe at http://www.finepaints.com ,I will only use thair paint on my furniture and cabnets, its so good I use regular MDF whith out worry.
*Here is the good news on MDF:-Cheap.-Mechanically stable due to very uniform fibres pressed together.-Easy to get well bonded coating on.Here is the bad news.- Not as strong as plywood or solid woods, especially given the weight. Small dense fibres lack tensile strength and are heavy.- Small uniform fibre absorb water quickly and at the same rate. The uniform rate of absorption offsets warping but swells real fast.- What is it glued together with? Personally I don't have formaldehyde paranoia, but many people do. MDF is essentially glue with wood fibres as reinforcement.
