Med crown stapler prob

| Posted in General Discussion on November 29, 2000 04:00am

I just bought a Senco sns45 stapler and I am hating life. This gun not only doesn’t set the staples, but the tip hangs on the last staple you shot. I am supposed to be able to shoot 7/sec, but it is more like shoot seven and cuss for a minute while you pound the heads down. I frigged with it a bit this morning and it was a little better, but this gun is defective.

So it isn’t happening with this gun, should I just get my money back or try another? Has anyone here used this gun? The problem is that I have very little options buying tools around here and if I don’t exchange it I would have to go on a three hour cruise to buy a different make.

I've got a Senco 3/8 crown stapler that does the same thing, except for the hangup part. Unless you're shooting into something REAL soft, it's not gonna set the whole staple. It's too wide. I bought it to shoot up 1/8" plywood for tight curves in ceiling and wall substrates. Nails wouldn't hold, narrow crowns just shot through and screws wouldn't set themselves in such thin plywood. The flat part of the staple not setting in the wood is exactly what I needed. This is not a trim tool.

*Qrtmeg, have you tried cranking the air? I ran Senco's for many years and had tons of similar problems with all types of their stuff. Finally Forest convinced me to crank the air up. It works. Then, the only problem is exploding nosepieces due to fatigue and firing dry shots. Now you know why I switched to paslode. Also, make sure your air supply is large enough. I have to slow down substantially in the cold weather to keep my stapler going. I use a 1/4" hose (not recomended, but easy on my body) and frost combine to choke the supply. See if your stuff works with a short hose and higher (maybe as high as 120-130 psi) air pressure.I'd make the 3 hr dr, and save 300 hours of friggin around during the lifetime of the tool!blue

*I have a 45 and I've never had that problem. There was a fault with the first model that was corrected with an update kit. If you've got the time call the service rep listed on their website. These guys know their product well and will do nearly anything to help you, including sending you free parts when the gun is way out of warranty.

*Ya Fleetwood, I called their tech support and got zip except that all of our tools work great and you should just return it, or some such bs.Ya Blue, cranked the air, but that didn't solve the problem. Tried big comp and little comp, 3/8 hose and 1/4 hose, even oiled it and "sanded" the nose. If I wasn't so old I may have even used some new dirty words, but I think I already used them all.I guess I won't bother exchanging it, I just want a gun to work when I grab it, not play with my head. I never used a Paslode but I will see what is availible in the big city...thanks for the feedback

*I enjoy taking things apart to see how and why they work but NOT when I need it to work NOW.If the rep said they'd take it back - DO IT! You don't need to spend more money on something different and just mothball a defective gun. You could send it to me. I don't need it to work now and I would take it apart.

*Ralph, it is going back, I was just wondering if I should just get a refund or exchange it for another. The big problem is that all that is availible around me are Sencos and Bostitch, I already hate Bostitch and now have had about enough of Senco. I have 2 Sencos, a sn2 and a sf2, and in all fairness they have been rock solid performers, and will drive nails where most of the new lighter guns won't. As far as spending more money, this is not a cheap gun and I can't imagine a different brand gun will cost any more. I just need to roam around and see who has what.I am with you on taking things apart, but I seem to take two things apart for every one I put back togeather, I still have an antique desk I took apart about twenty years ago I need to get back to pretty soon. ;-)
