Metal over metal or no on old farmhouse roof
Hi Guys …. We’ve got this old New England Farm the buildings have some kind of corrugated steel roofing that is rusting and is also rather ugly. It has been painted on and off over the years but I would really like to replace it with a newer steel roof something along the lines of standing seam or snap seam with a high quality finish. The question I have is weather I can and or should just put the roof right over the old roof or do I need to demo the old stuff first ? I was also kicking around the idea of adding some insulation panels with fasten through going to the inside …… Thoughts comments or advice would be great especially if you’ve done one of these …. Thank You !!

tearing out the existing roof (specially if in that kind of shape) is always the best option.
You would, at least, need to assure that you have a smooth, solid, nailable surface over which to place the standing seam. And if you were going to hire the SS roofing there's a good chance there would be an upcharge to deal with it over an existing metal roof.
It might make sense to leave the old and put foam and then plywood over it. Probably not if you were going to put the SS directly over it.
I wouldn't even consider it. Sounds like a bad idea all around.
