The designer has specified attaching a deck beam to the exterior of the house using a beam pocket. The beam will sit on top of the poured concrete foundation so the pocket is cut into the bottom 3 courses of brick. We’ve looked at alternatives such as a hangar or a new sono tube pier but it would have to be footing depth (7′) so this is our best solution. The beam will supports a full roof and screened in area above. My question is what is the best way to seal around the 4X2X10″ PT beam in the brick wall.

I have to be brief. If you see the volume of posts I've made over the years, you'd know why. I'm trying to close down on Piffin. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07
I'm not even going to try to catch him.
I understand that you need to leave space on either side of a beam in a 'pocket' that's in a masonry wall, n'est ce pas?
Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
Is this brick veneeer or a structural brick wall?
New construction or adding to existing?
Does the designer really know what they are doing?
