Wisteria vine grew underneath my old asbestos shinles causing moisture to accumulate on sheathing. The inside wall is brick…during summer high humidity days there is a strong mildew odor in den. I’m guessing it’s the wet, rotted sheathing causing odor and possibly mold? We had difficulty nailing shingles onto exterior wall as the nails would not hold.
Any other suggestions before I commit to siding the house and replacing sheathing as necessary?

You're saying the odor is coming through the brick? I'd look carefully for other water damage, and also check for air leaks through the wall.
Hi Dan H,
Thanks for the reply!
We also have a wool berber rug in the den installed with padding over a slab...when I do a simple "smell test", the mildew odor is the strongest near the interior fireplace/brick wall...it's possible that water has gotten into the chimney/brick wall...some years ago we blocked off the fireplace wall w/the flue shut and made it a utility wall where we now have 10' of wall unit housing all of our electronics...that makes it a major task to check anything from the inside of the den.
I'm leaning towards siding to insure we uncover bad sheathing and hopefully eliminate the mildew odor...If I'm wrong, it will be an expensive guess!
