I have 2 beautiful young children. Unfortunately there are tough on the home. I wanted to install new kitchen cabinets and countertops. I have been looking at the mills pride that homedepot sells. Does anyone out there have knowledge of the long term quality and durability of this product. As well as limitations? Thank you.

Two ways to look at this -
mills Pride are cheap cabinets, some of the poorest I havwe seen.
But since you have kids that are undisciplined enough to ruin good cabinets, you best choice is probably to use the MP and then replace them after the kids grow up.
Sorry if this sounds too cynical, but as the maker of good things, I do feel insulted when ppeople destroy the work I dio in disrespect of what is involved in doing a good job.

Where (what stores, websites, etc) do you suggest I get good advice and recommendations for durability and quality in cabinets that I can install once but that will stand a couple of years of fingerprints and slamming? Thanks for responding. This is helpful.
Mills Pride are up to that for a couple of years.HD has other brands available for higher prices.
One problem with HD is that they do not include all the normally available sizes in there line up. that constricts your design options. If you need a 27" W cab, they are likely to advise you that you need a 24"W uniot with a 3" fill strip rather than ordering a 27" unit.Crowne Point has some good work but a high price tag.
Merilat is one of the largest modest priced and acceptable quality. Nothing to brag on but acceptable. Most manufacturers have more than one line. The old good, better and best. They may assign different names to them. Look for plywood sides and solid wood doors for good quality. Dovetailed drawer bodies and full extension slides in higher end work

A couple months back, Consumer Reports did a write-up/ranking of kitchen cabinets. Might want to check that out. Suprisingly, IKEA cabinets were ranked #5.
Sorry I don't have an exact issue
The ratings of cabinets and countertops were in the August 2004 issue.
Ikea cabinets ranked #4, just after Lowe's Diamond Platinum range (which cost half the price of the premium brands above it). The Ikea ones cost half as much as the Lowe's Diamond and were well ahead of the Mills Pride brand.
I have an online subscription to the mag, which I highly recommend--you get immediate access to all the old reviews and rankings. http://www.consumerreports.org

buying mp stuff will cost you the same as some good cabnets. Buy the good stuff, hope for the best and replace the damanged ones when its happens.P.S and enjoy the kids. They will grow up some day.
Piffin is a good source of info, he knows what he's talking about.
Check out some of the local kitchen centers, most lumber yards have one associated with them. They all will carry a good basic line that is affordable. They will definitely be better than mills pride. Can you wait a few years till the kids grow up a bit and will be kinder to the cabinets?
Also, Lowes sells much better quality items than Home depot. Depot really sells some real junk. You might check out lowes, the quality will almost certainly be better, I don't know about the price.
Check out Ikea's cabinets! They are rated #3 by Consumer Reports, ahead of cabinets triple their price from Expo and Lowe's. I looked at them, and they are beautiful. You can get many options, including glass doors. The cabinets come in many different colors of wood. I'm having my kitchen cabinets custom-made, but am using Ikea cabinets in my laundry room. Their website has only a couple options - you really need to go into the store to see the best ones.
