I need some input on this thing. I’m gonna buy one tonight, unless told not to – it’s $10 more than a 690, and worth about $50 more with a nice case, great features, a skoosh more power, better design. Has anyone come up with any negatives?

Borrowed one recently, like it a lot, will buy one myself when I can justify - that is get the wife to approve it.
*No soft start, No variable speed, no plunge. But it has to be better than the 690
*Everybody need a least one 690, great simple well balanced. But I just got the new Milwaukee and I love it. Only complaint is the stock base plate has a huge hole. I always change that anyway.David
*Have extracted a piece of data from my router CD.Would very much like to hear comments to the contrary............................................................................................The 6" router base casting has the 3 hole 10-24 screw hole pattern of the PC 690. Notwithstanding, it is on a slightly different circle but close enough for most 690 cross-over fixturing. The casting will accept my 690 edge guide or Porter Cable's. The 3 tapped holes for attaching the plastic subbase are pods that sit ~.015-.020" proud of the unground/unfaced base casting. As such, the plastic subbase resides above the casting and bends with varying downward pressure on the knobs. In my view, this is a safety hazard. If the plate bends during an edge cut, the cutter axis will change and spoil the cutter profile. A kick back is a possibility. The router can also teeter when completely surrounded by substrate! Fixturing the casting to the router table or other accessory must account for this quirk. If I were to use the router in the router table I would face off the whole casting on a surface plate first. The bakelite subbase, like most, is mishapen and will facilitate unwanted bending. My round acrylic subbases, although quite flat, will also bend on this casting but my offset subbase is essentially deflection free. The cutter hole in the as-supplied plate will not accept collar guides and is a generous 2-1/2"; about 3/4" too big for this router tech. The 5615 should be restricted to cutters ...............................................Routers...................
*You make your own baseplates?
*yes.
*I bought one , well took my wife shopping and forgot my check book, she bought one for me . The 690 base plate fits fine . I filed the mounting bumps off the base to ad support to the baseplate. I like the screw hight adjuster and the camlock lever. fits my hand very nice . Don
*Thanks for the info - sounds like I can file the mounting bosses down to be flush with the surrounding surface.A question, though: in the video clip on FWW's site, you use a top-bearing bit for routing a shelf dado. Can you tell me more about the bit you used? Shank size? Cut diameter? Cutting height? I'd appreciate it - thanks, did
