I was browsing Lowe’s tool section about two weeks ago and came upon a Task Force (yikes!) mini-compressor for $99. My regular compressor is a 20 gal C-H and a PITA to whip out for small jobs. I bought it and darned if I haven’t used it three times in the last two weeks. One piece of trim here, some shoe mould there, quick and easy.
Anybody else use a mini-comp for small jobs? I know it’s a Task Force which generally means POS, but how long do you think this thing will last?

Jeff - It's not too loud but it runs at a higher pitch than a regular-sized comp. No bass in it, if you know what i mean, so it's not rattling windows and such.
I would guess it weighs about 20lb. Built in handle on top - very easy to carry around.
It also came with the snappy looking yellow coil hose, some blowing/inflating attachments, and the fittings.
I'm installing some thresholds about 40 mi. out of town today and this thing will allow me to take the car instead of the truck. Prelude on back roads - sweet!

Yeah. I want the same answers that Jeff wants.
I was looking at the little Senco compressor- its about $100, too.
I'm getting too old and too lazy to drag out the bigger one for these little jobs.
I can't say enough good about that little Senco. Bought it last summer for a bunch of trim work. I find it goes out now almost 50% of the time. Can't do production nailing, but works great on ALL trim jobs. don't know why I didn't get one sooner. don't hesistate, get one!
Get one of the yellow coiled hoses at the same time. It stretches to 10 ft or so, and is easy to carry for the small jobs.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
Thanks for the reply.
Gotta pay off the Visa from some recent tool purchases, then I'll be getting one.
Do you know the model number of the Senco mini-compressor? It sounds like just what I'm looking for. Is it the PC1010 that they have on their website? http://www.senco.com/con_rem/ViewTool.aspx?toolid=175.

I've got that one. 35 second recovery is some drug induced wish, nonetheless, I love it. Light, tiny and quiet, great for punch...don't expect it to trim a house, well, unless you like a lot of breaks...which isn't unappealing<G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!
I'm glad to hear it. I got mine about a week ago and have not had a chance to fire it up yet. I've got the Dewalt Emglo and at 65 lbs I really don't want to use it for every job.Quality repairs for your home.

I bought that same compressor about 6 months ago, but I found it at lowes on sale for $69. It's great. Much, much quieter than a pancake. I don't mind using it in an occupied room, although it is not whisper quiet. Less than a household vaccuum.
The interesting thing is that it has a cooling fan (I think) that runs all the time, even when the tank is full. Very quiet, but you hear it and it can get annoying.
I use mine infrequently enough that it should last a very long time. I think I get about 6 shots with Bostich 15 ga gun before the compressor cycles.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
I had one of those for a while. Like you say, it was great to have something small for those small jobs. The version that I had was even on wheels, kind of like a two wheel dolly. And it was light enough that it really was portable. (Not at all like the 20 gallon beast that I also had.)
But the pressure actuated switch that turns the motor on and off went bad after about a year.
So I sold it "as is" at a garage sale, and replaced it with a Bostitch pancake. It's not as easy to move around, but I'm hoping for better longevity.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
