Could someone please inform me as to the minimum distance from the floor to the bottom of a window when using non-tempered glass according to the uniform building code. Thank you.

18" from the floor to the glass.
Billy
*18" is correct , but there are 3 other criteria that come into play... go to the code in effect for your jurisdiction, make sure you have all the amendments.. then read the fine print..I had this discussion with our building inspector last month and he is the one who told me about it.. i had always automatically assumed it was 18 " and that was that..our code is CABO with RI amendments.. UBC may be different.. but check it out..if i had the book here i'd look it up and tell you what he was talking about....one of the items was the location of the window besides it's height above the floor......
*Can you tell me more Mike? I know on a tub wall is one place, on stairs, etc. Where else? If it can be fallen out of from another location.Billy
*Another consideration is its proximity to a door. Within 24" (nearest vertical edge) and bottom edge less than 60" above floor or walking surface. (SBC - Chapter 24)
*sorry billy, no reference matl here... i just remember being surprised that it wasn't as cut and dried as i thot.. what he told me is that it had to meet all of the 4 criteria before tempered glass was required...if we don't get that blizzard tonite , i'll try and look it up tomorrow.. maybe jeff clarke can shed some light....or ralph wicklund..
*This is BOCA 1990, but I bet it hasn't changed that much... it sounds like what Mike and Ralph are saying...
*Thank you all for the responses and nick for the document. I will have to research with my local inspector. I have another question though. Is the 18" minimum to the bottom of the window frame or the glass?
*The glass.Billy
