Got ~1-2″ water in my finished basement during record rainfall couple weeks ago.
Unfortunately I was laid up after some surgery and I’m just able to fix it now.
My basement: poured foundation. 1/2 the area is finished w/: drop ceiling, PT bottom plate & pine stud walls, regular drywall held 1/2 off floor, insulation r13 paper faced. Basement has never got water to my knowledge.
What I’ve done so far:
-pumped w/ floor sucker basement was dry in 48-72hrs w/ fans and dehumidifiers.
-I removed all carpet/pad in <72hrs (ouch that hurt).
-2 weeks later I’ve removed all baseboard and door casings as well as cut up 24″ of drywall from bottom edge. I’ve also removed 24″ insulation.
What I’m finding:
-Drywall feels dry except bottom edge (cut it open and found nada.
-Insulation is damp/wet maximum 6-8″ up then feels dry.
-some white fuzz growing in small 6″ diameter here and there walls, floor…
– I shoved my arm up behind remaining drywall and the insulation where it meets the foundation feels damp. Pulled the whole Bat of insulation down put a painting light in the bay and it looks good no fuzz, dark areas on foundation or drywall.
My questions:
-Is what I’ve done sound ?
– Is the fact the insulation where it meets the wall feels damp a concern or is it to be expected ? Both insulation/drywall/foundation look good up in the bays.
– is the white fuzz an indication to pull the walls ? Or just spray bleach on it ?
– Does the overall build/design sound appropriate ? (I’ve only done basements w/ metal stud and rigid insulation thus far)
Thanks
(kind of hyperposting due to injured status, I usually just read)

Just spray bleach diluted 1:31 and let dry fully and reinstallinsulation and drywall.
Find out why you got flooded and fix that as well. :-)
1:31 is that a typo ? meaning 1:3 right ?
Nope. 1 oz to 31 ounces to make one quart of solution. It doens't need to be full strength and actually works better if it is not.
Sweet. I'll hit it tonight. Much appreciated.
