Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Yeah, I had wonderful time breaking in the new Tundra on the road trip to WI...and it sure was a champ when I needed to haul supplies etc to do the work on my Mom's porch, and then get some porch railings installed.
Of course, being and old structure, I ran into rot and issues...
Started a thread in Business Folder, which has pics and queries and current status update on this ongoing aspect of things. When ya have a chance, maybe you'll peruse it. (Do ya remember the chimney dude and the registered SOLIDFLUE system & $23K quote I chatted with ya about awhile back...?...perchance?)

Also, you may recall I was talking bout visiting Ireland? Well dear friend of mine very much wants to go there and made me promise to hold off on that for another year so could get their finances prepared for it. SOOOOOOOOooooooooooo, recognizing that I'd been failing to follow Covey's "sharpening the saw"....I'm planning a true "vacation' and will be going to New Zealand in Mar/Apr '07. See the "some pics" thread in the SHED for more bout that if ya care to.
Otherwise, very very busy at the day job. We're about to demonstrate to environmental regulators our capability to comply with RCRA permit requiremetns and EPA MACT requirements, by doing agent trial burns in our 3rd furnace system. Much ado to support/prep/manage that endeavor.
But HQ comes along with new mandate so I'm in 3 days of MANDATORY "lean six sigma champions" training right now. Glad I finished reading my truini Shed book cuz now my homework is reading that required homework/reading assignments.
And off to eat some dindin and get started on that I go!
Now, aren't ya sorry ya asked??????????????? (one of these days, when somebody sez "how are ya?", I'll learn to respond with a simple "fine"...but apparently not THIS day) <g>DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
Six-sigma is good stuff, and the timing for training is never right - LOL. In your situation I can see where it would be really relavant. How are your statistics skills?
Yeah, our agency is apparently "doing it right" - although a little late to the LSS dance...
They're sending all the senior leaders to Champions courses, and signing up the action officers, SMEs (subj matter experts - like engineering staff, etc.) for Green Belt and Black Belt courses.
I'll probably do the Black belt myself at some time in the future. Gotta get thru our upcoming Metal Parts Furnace (MPF) secondary wastes agent trial burns first though. And I've got a new Environmental Engineer who reported for work this week, to get spun up on things. She was inprocessing yesterday then had to take coupla hours off to go close on her house here (she's come to us from NM). So got a lot on my plate at day job; but that's really nothing new.
Our instructor for this LSS-Champions class is a co-author of one of the books we're reading for the class. I'll post about it in the Whatareyareading thread in the Shed sometime.
Other recently mandated req'd training for us has been ICS - incident command system - which I elected to do the online coursework that's found at the FEMA website.
Anybody who wants to understand how these structures & approaches are SUPPOSED to work in response to an "event" or "incident", oughta spend a coupla hours doing just the IS-100 & IS0-200 courses. That's just "IMHO" of course!
But anyway - the short answer to your query? My statistics skills are quite good, as are my math and science skills/education...<g>

You're gonna build your shed to military spec, aren't you?
Methinks your knowledge of military contracting may be outta date...somewhat.
But if your desire is to extrapolate my DOD work to my shed building project, well then - I'd say that my schedule for this shed project is likely to have as accurate an "estimated completion date (ECD)" and "final cost" as any other DOD project; with an analogous VAC (variance at completion) factor.

My thought on building a shed to military specs would be that more trees were used to produce the necessary paperwork than were used to procude the lumber to build the shed...
I've decided that too many people think they are right, for them all to be right. [Adam Rifkin]
Probably true at one time BH but nowadays...it's electrons everywhere.
Reminds me of a true anecdote though...
when I moved to AR 4 years ago, I made some offhand comment about saving trees by reduction of paperwork ("paperless office initiative") and the local yokels in the office took me aside and gave me the speech about "supporting the local economy" and the presence of Potlach, International Paper, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all about size with you, isn't it?
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
Size is a fundamental design spec directly relative to the successful capacity, and therefore functionality, of the shed I'm building.
So "yes" is my answer to your...'question'
Why? You got a problem with that?
<g>DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
"Size is a fundamental design spec directly relative to the successful capacity, and therefore functionality, of the shed I'm building."You know that it'll never be big enough anyway, so just go ahead and build an aircraft hangar.I got no problem with that.

it'll never be big enough anyway, so just go ahead and build an aircraft hangar.
Oh, so you've done work for AAFES then . . . <g>Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
As I've progressed the shed issues from site selection, sizing, design, materials, etc...
I've determined that at my next geographic location in life I shall utilize the information and self-realization I'm gleaning from this endeavor; i.e. it has become self-evident that the amount of square footage I need for living space - and I'm speaking specifically, and as just "ME" (what do I really need to be comfortable and happy?) is actually quite a bit less than the 2100+ sq ft of house that I have now; HOWEVER, I've simultaneously discerned that what I do need is a larger amt of square footage for my hobbies, tools and supplies. So I currently have excess capacity in one area and lack of capacity in another. The shed project is to help address that reality in a pragmatic fashion.
So overall, this is an educational experience and process for me that reaches beyond the superficial topics of nuts/bolts/boards relative to the shed building itself. Whether this simultaneously serves as an entertaining topic for others or not, was not my focus nor concern.
(All can recall it wasn't I who initiated this thread.)
DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
Yep, she's building a shed alright.
However, the term 'shed' doesn't seem to do justice to the building in question as it sounds like much more is going on than some sort of storage facility in the making.
Perhaps she might come to realize that 1500ft and under will more than accurately meet her living needs as long as the 'hobby shop' guffaw will be somewhere in the 30x40 ft range.

Truth be told, I had settled on a design...and then a friend emailed me a pic of a shed he'd seen elsewhere and BAM - MY EYES FLEW WIDE, My heartbeat started racing and I had that IMMEDIATE "THAT'S IT!" and it threw all my actions to date upside-down.
But heck, it's totally much better and PERFECT for my uses, my house/yard style, my personality, all of it!
However, since it's a pic from a location/owner I don't know...I am hesitant to post it here Rez.

Had me wondering too.
Probably tired of my not progressing my shed project.
But you know me: I always have multiple balls in the air. Some are in current activity, some in planning stages, some in finishing stages. It is exactly what I do at my job - where we cannot just focus on one thing at a time or the whole shebang would heave ho. SO of course, I'm that way in my personal life with my various projects too!
well anyway...was in the planning stages of a shed when I'd originally posted in READING thread about reading the Truini book. meanwhile, as some know, I'm in active stage with my LR floor project. held up currently by trying to find a quality flooring product I want to use in there, as a floating engineered HW floor on that slab while I simultaneously do the relatively minor amount of floor levelling since I'm done with the moisture tests and all went well on that.
sigh.
never enough time it seems!
And also simultaneously working and communicating from afar with the GC I hired to do the tasks at Mom's house up in WI. (that's coming along so far so good, BTW)
