Hi, recently viewed a 42 year old home with plywood soffits. Homeowner called regarding black mold that had shown up under the soffit and is spreading. The only thing that I can come up with is the trough overflowing back into the soffit over time and causing the mold growth. The trough is not sloping near enough with a few trees dropping leaves, thus blocking the downspouts.
Has anyone run into this before? Thanks!

Sure.
Not certain if you are talking mold or just mildew. Either are common up there. basic maintenance some places is washing soffits once a year because of mildew. locate trees close by and you can triple the growth rate.
If the owners have failed to take care of cleaning the gutters, you have a rot repair job on your hands more than likely. Seems people would rather spend thousands on repairs every 8-10 years than to simply clean gutters a couple times a year.
