My sister has a place in NYC and wants to put up mini blinds (the place rocks, but has a lovely view of the midtown tunnel) It is a concrete and steel building and I am looking for the best way (and hopefully easiest to secure the blinds to the concrete…. I am thinking tapcon/caliburn screws are overkill, and lead shields seem overkill too, but I almost certain regular screws will blow out. Oh, I think that a Powder Actuated Fastener gun will probably end up with an arrest warrant too… I have a hammer drill (corded and cordless) and am pondering what to do…

Old fashioned way (I've used it several times) was to drill out oversized holes and then hamer in a wooden "suppository" [any old wood / wood scraps will do; they will conform to the hole]. Then you just screw into the wood.
The Tapcons are a whole lot easier, the only extra effort is drilling the hole for the screw. Short of glueing them into place, I can't see anything easier than the Tapcons.
I think i might go with the small expanding plastic anchors, the blinds arent going to be that heavy, so it should be ok...jmmmm
I've done that a bizillion times. It works magnificently. Just use a 1/4" tapcon drill bit to drill the hole and then pound the plastic anchor into the hole. I usually use short drywall screws , but I imagine you could probably just use the actual screws that came with the blinds." If I were a carpenter"
Now I am thinking that I am going to use a piece of 90 degree pvc to hook a vacuum to so I can catch all of the debris so I make very little mess... I am hoping that this will be a grand success..
I am planning on drilling through the right angle of the pvc.
we will see....
