We are remodeling and 1830 colonial in Maine. We are doing a total renovation. The homeowner has someone that will teardown their barn for nothing(26’x26′). But now they are thinking about saving the barn and having someone lift move and put a foundation under it. It is sitting on posts now and will probably need to have new sills. Old is nice but the labor costs of retrofitting garage doors and windows seems that the labor costs will more than make up for what they might save in material and they will still have a 150 year old barn. The second floor will have living space above it. Bedroom and workout room. If it was just storage this would be a good idea. Has anyone else had experience with a project like this. Please let me know about the drawbacks to the benifits.
