I need to move a subpanel a couple feet as the space where its currently residing will be closed in in the near future. Unfortunately there is no way of moving it in the direction of the AC feeder cable, so the feeder has to be extended.
Now, I will eventually bring in an electrician for this but is wondering what is involved, are there boxes large enough for this or do I need a new subpanel to connect them?

There are plenty of boxes big enough. You'll need to leave it exposed. Consider mechanical bolt type connectors rather than twist-on wire nuts.

Thanks Scott,Any suggestion on where I might order online? I'd like to source and have everything ready for my guy to hook it up.Nick
No, sorry. If I were doing this I'd probably run it by my inspector to be sure that the box and connector application were appropriate. It sounds like a pretty small job. Around here the permit would only cost about $30. Cheap insurance for some peace-of-mind!Good luck,Scott.

Not exposed, but accessable. Basically that means anything that you can get with with just a screwdriver..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I've seen NEMA 1 type boxes at the big orange store. An 8"x8"x4" should be big enough for #4 awg. A 12"x12"x4" would be good up to about 2/0 I think.
