Hey Guys,
I’m getting ready to move my shop from Wisconsin to Boston and I’m wondering if anyone has experience or recommendations for shipping tools. The options I’m considering:
Just box and UPS my hand tools, power tools, etc. sell the big tools?
Build a couple of crates and pack them full of everything. Not sure how shipping crates works.
Maybe getting a relo-cube/pod and packing that full. Cost +$900
Having a hard time coming up with a cost / benefit equation. Pay to ship old tools I like vs. buying used/new tools here?
Any thoughts?

I cringe at the thought..........
I will be of no help. I am an onsite carpenter, most of my shop is mobile for set up on the job. Two van loads if necessary on something big. But I am mobile. Shop equipment is not overpowering, I might be able to fit everything in a pod if thought it out right
I wouldn't want to "re-tool". The quality of what I have exceeds most of what could be affordably purchased. I've been at this all my life-I have compiled some good stuff and taken care of it.
But again, we're not in the same situation-Best of luck!
I would think that some of the stuff could be moved like furniture, more or less. How are you moving the rest of your household belongings?
Re move vs sell/buy, I'd evaluate the change in space, the quality of the equipment, and whether you anticipated doing more work of less with the stuff after the move. It might be, eg, that that old table saw won't fit your new shop any better than the old couch will fit the new living room.
Try posting this over at the Knots forum. I seem to remember some threads from the past. Don't know if they're still accessible or not. As many woodworkers as they have there, I'm sure some have had to move shops.
