I’m doing a mud floor in a small bath, 6×6 ft square, average thickness will be 1 1/2″.
60# bag covers 12 sq ft at 1/2″.
80# bag covers 16 sq ft at 1/2″.
So I need 9/60# bags or about 7/80# bags??
Seems like an awful lot.
What do you come up with?
Thanks. I think I froze my brain today.

Nine bags 60#

No brain freeze that I can gauge. I come up with pretty much the same quantity.
(1.5" / 12") x 36 (sq ft) = 4.5 cu ft / .6 (cu ft in 80# bag including some slop) = 7.5 bags needed.
Eric,
Here is a link to a deck mud calculater. It works! John Bridge also has a tile caculator

IIRC, 90# = 2/3 cuft, so 60# = 1/2 cuft sounds right. Your math is good.

Of course my experience is; make sure you buy at least 3 or 4 more bags than you need. They never seem to go as far as the bag says, and you can always take 'em back when you're finished.
Thanks All.
It's good to have back up; I appreciate it.
