Anyone know a source for alternatives to a Murphy Bed? I saw an add for something called a Dolap bed, where the mattress was in the wall much like a Murphy, but it pulled out from the bottom part of the wall rather than hinged down from above. It has a track that curved up and behind the false wall, so you could even do something like have a real bookcase in front. Better safety, too, be/c it couldn’t fall on you. But the phone number seems to go to a residence and the messages are never returned. So that got me thinking about alternatives. Got several house designs where they want something like that in a study as overflow sleeping. Come across any creative alternatives?

You might consider air beds. These are mattresses which get filled with air when needed, and store uninflated. These aren't the air mattresses you slept on when you were a kid. They're the size and shape of standard mattresses, and take standard sheets and blankets.
We love the air beds in our house. The whole family(both kids) have water beds for every day. The air beds are the closest thing to water beds.
I've slept on an air bed a couple of times. It needed a thick pad between me and the mattress because the air never warms up. A waterbed is heated, a standard mattress retains the heat from your body and so feels warm at least after awhile, but the air mattress just kept cooling me off. I thought I was going into hypothermia!
Of course, if the weather is hot enough and there is no ac, it might just be the ticket.
