Yep, not by myself though. Bunch of hippies in the old days. I was the dumb one on the crew, did the first floor walls, and laid out the asphalt shingles. Left the rest to the brainy types.
First level had 27 4' x8' wall sections though.
Hope they aren't planning on asphalt shingles. I still have nightmares about that one.
He has an engineering background. I will ask him about that. I can imagine asphalt shingles would be a nightmare. What other applications would you recommend?
I really have no good suggestions beyond the fact that there are newer generations of spray on coating etc. that would probably work. We tried an early version of a Vulkem product back in the early seventies. It leaked like a sieve. The shingles weren't all that bad, it simply took a lot of time and thinking to do it. Once done however no more leaks. Building burned to the ground about 1975.

The asphalt shingled ones here both leaked profusely. Neither exist today. You see this before http://www.sover.net/~triorbtl/cottage_1.htm ?
Copper would be a nice skin. Used it on my rectilinear place.
Sure would be nice if I could spell.
PAHS works. Bury it.

Can you imagine what that would cost now?

Think lifespan cost. I'd be looking into it.PAHS works. Bury it.
What about regular metal roofing like Galvalume?
Not the cost of copper and lasts a long time too.

Installed on that dome? Beats me, never used it.
Whereas copper can cover about anything. And if I can install it with no leaks, somebody who knows what they're doing wouldn't have any problem.
Ya gotta admit, that's not a house you want to reroof anytime soon. Not unlike this little gem that Grant fabricated the pieces. Blew my sox off.PAHS works. Bury it.
I recall that pic and thread. That is some gorgeous work!

LOL, I couldn't figure out what you were talking about! Then it hit me like a brick.
Copper........Feeding the habit.
I guess that is a good thing I didn't know right off the bat! :-)

My neighbor has one.
I think they dreamed it up in a pot smoking haze. First shakes then comp.
The shakes worked the best the comp is leaking now.
After 4 years they will be sick of trying to place furniture around..
They had trouble selling it for years even in a hot market as you need to find others that like that.
Sorry for the negitives
i knew two of them ...one here in town... one in upstate NY.... both were leakers
BUT... with todays membranes, i wouldn't be a-skeered of asphalt shingles today
just get a roofer who knows what he/she is doing... and think like a drop of water ...especially a wind-driven drop of water

It may help that the home is being built in New Mexico.. LOL
He may not have too many problems. Its in New Mexico. 3-4 inches of rain a year.
Those things are uglier than a mud fence.
What is the benefit?
I refuse to accept that there are limitations to what we can accomplish. Pete Draganic
He seems to think that out in the hot desert it will wick out heat well. Lessen his AC bill. And me nephew is an odd wad on top of that.
Benifits? Incredible strength to weight ratio, uses light weight cost effective materials, stable under severe weather conditions, high volume of space enclosed for the least amount of skin area. Thats just a few.

More benefits...
- Looks really cool.
- Easy to give directons to.
- Extraterrestrials think you're on their side.
(Not sure if that last one's a benefit)--------------------------------------------------------
