oh yeah... the point of thread, web-site looks good!

          but I still feel wronged!

Porn aside...the site is great except.......and this is coming from just a home owner.....personally, I would like to see more pictures of products.  Maybe a few plain and fancy doors and windows.  It gives people ideas and helps them picture possibilities.

The picture of yourself is a good touch along with the testimonials.

  4. torn | Oct 03, 2006 03:31am | #7

After just a quick look, in no particular order...

I like the nice, clean layout.

Photo on about.html is fuzzy. A higher-resolution pic would be good.

    Color scheme is pleasing.

Would suggest a different font scheme on the Testimonials page. Something to make the quote stand out from the source. For example, make the source one or two sizes smaller than the quote itself. Or put the quote (or source) in italics.

zachworx - is that a son? I like the *worx theme :-)
    nicely done!

Well then , stop what you're doing and consider going into business with your son!

If he can do that, you've got one talented kid.

I agree with AC, maybe a gallery page would show everyone what kind of work you do.

  5. JerraldHayes | Oct 03, 2006 05:19pm | #13

Outstanding work John. You have got to be really proud. I know how feel in a way. I have a nephew who just turned two and is drawing like a five or six year old already. Maybe another designer in the making like your son?

As for constructive criticism I think agree with what torn had to say regarding the display on the testimonial page but changing font sizes to set off the quote from the source may not be the only solution. If your son is ready to start playing around with Cascading Style Sheet CSS he might just want to apply a different background or box to the quotes.

Regardless that's all nitpicking in the site looks excellent. The kid's got talent.

Thanx Jerrald! On the home page there was a car in the driveway, which he photoshopped out of the pic and installed a fence on either side of the house. I'm amazed, proud and humble...I will show him the suggestions when he gets off the bus today. Thanx again...JohnView Image

Thanx for all the suggestions everyone. My son made the changes and it looks much better. I like the suggestions about some sort of gallery. I'll have to get some pics together and see if they'll look OK. Most of what I do is repair stuff, so there's really no before or after shots. Thanx again!

    Great site, great logo.

Now, of course you know this, but it is important that your truck signage show the web address, as well as what your business specializes in.

A few yard signs would help, too.  Same rules as truck signage.  One in each front yard, placed there at time of job aquisition, left there until job closeout, all with owner's permission, of course.

I like the way contact us works at the site.  If they really want to begin a dialog with you, they have to type in some basic information.

    The good:

I liked how fast your site loaded. It's overall appearance was simple, clean and there is nothing to object to.

    The criticism:

You are not including enough benefits in your sales pitch. SamT made me very aware that when I'm trying to sell something, I need to sell the benefits, not the facts. Don't sell door repairs, sell lower heating bills and more comfortable living areas instead.

You do have some benefits listed but you have a lot more to offer.

    blue

Our Skytrak is for sale. It has 500 hrs on it. We want  50k (you pay the freight) and we'll finance it. Drop me an email; it's a good buy.

      >>>when I'm trying to sell something, I need to sell the benefits, not the facts. Don't sell door repairs, sell lower heating bills and more comfortable living areas instead.

Extremely wise words. Now I gotta go re-look at my own site and see if I'm even close on that one. Of course no one actually looks at that site, so maybe it matters not.
