I’m installing radiant floor heating on the first floor, High velocity forced hot air (hydronic) on the second floor and I want to do it all with a water heater.
But these are my requirements:
Oil fired,
Sealed combustion, direct vent (I know oil fired units aren’t 100% sealed),
Energy efficient (Energy Star house)
Ideally, it would be nice to have “tank within a tank” construction to separate the heating water from the domestic.
Any suggestions? Web sites? Can I prove the plumber wrong.

We just (had) installed a "Phase III" domestic water heater of the tank-in-tank type which indeed uses boiler water from the oil fired furnace to heat the domestic supply. But it's a stand alone unit. My guess is you can use about any oil fired HW furnace to do your ground floor but may need another stand alone unit to utilize HW to heat the air as it flows through the air handler.
Maybe what they mean is that it' doesn't come as a single, three purpose unit.
