Blind nailing hardiplank, but the trimwork (corners and around windows) nails show pretty bad even when painted.

Counter sink & fill. Azek, Miratek, GP prime trim. Painted nails (heads).
What can you fill hardiplank trim with? Concerned about stability over time.
I've never tried it nor heard of anyone using it, but the first thing that comes to mind is thinset mortar.
Your nails do have to be the high quality hot dipped galvanized or stainless steel recommended by Hardie. Otherwise, the nail will rust, and the expanding rust might pop the filler out.
So everyone else here just sets the nails, paints them, and leaves it at that?
I have come to use a trim screw to attach trim boards and it works great, especially if you are using 5/4 stock. I have found that with the 5/4 stock it helps to pre-drill anyway so I drill then use a screw, that way I know it wont back out and cause a hump were I filled. The filler I use for this is latex caulk, I find it works great, paints or stains great and stays in place.
