Pardon me for butting in, I started in the Fine Gardening Discussion group, just posted a question in the Knots forum and have a question for this group. (Isn’t technology great?)
A Swedish company makes and markets a NASA developed foam mattress at out of this world prices. The foam is not patented and there are other companies that also make mattresses from this foam.
I have never slept on one, but my better half is lobbying for me to buy one of these foam mattresses.
Anybody got one? Comments? My understanding is that the swedish one is denser than the lessor name mattress’s – which sleeps better. Are you hot in the summer? Can you get out of bed?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I was interested in these for myself and unwilling to take a huge gamble on it. What I did was to buy one of the pillows made out of the same foam to see if I would like it. Turned out to be the most uncomfortable pillow I have ever used. Ended up buying a traditional mattress and am much happier for it.
We purchased (from Costco) a thick, but not mattress-thick NASA-type top for our van bed. Surprisingly, it took a bit of getting used to, but I love it. I have a bad back and don't notice it on that bed.
The Joanne's Bed and Back chain sells these mattresses, if you and your wife want to give them a lie-down test. My husband and I bought an inner-spring mattress with a four inch layer of the thermopedic foam, and we are not thrilled, but not so sorry that we're replacing it.
The all-foam mattress felt "dead" to us: we just sank down into it and there was no feeling of the mattress supporting us the way there is with an innerspring. It is hard to roll over. You have to sort of clamber out of the your-body shaped hole you're sleeping in, even to change position. We chose a compromise, and it has been OK, but it took getting used to.
I think that the foam-only mattress goes on a platform, rather than a boxspring. Make sure you find out about that, because it might mean that you have to replace your whole bed to accomodate the platform. It's been long enough that I'm not sure about that.
I would also look in the e-pinions website for buyers' reactions to the different brands of thermal foam mattresses.
Not sure if you are still looking, but we have one and love it! It is true that you kind of sink in and don't move around, but that's the point. I fall asleep and don't find myself waking up and tossing and turning. It is a much more restful sleep than other mattresses. I also found that the price was not that different from good quality inner spring mattresses.
