i live in hurricane alley, so it not the question if but how many per year.
So my front porch post are three inch steel embedded in the concrete porch slab. Question is top mount for the trusses. Since the porch and main roof is one piece trusses, I need to tie down good. I have a 2×8 double for the trusses to set on with hurricane straps. remember its a block house. How do I tie the 2x to the steel post. I was thinking of welding a steel U, to the top then bolting through the 2x. Or maybe an inverted “T” with the 2x bolted to the outside of the T. One way you could see steel plate the other be all wood. Please advise open for suggestion.

Why not a plate about 3.5" x 8" welded flat horizontally with four holes in the corners? Run lag bolts up through the holes into the beam which could be dado'd the thickness of the steel plate to make it flush inset. Then you could run the trim over it and see no steel.
