I need some advice in choosing a stove/oven. I’m looking at the Maytag gas stove with 5 burners (one warming) and a double oven. the top oven is small and is electric. The bottom oven in convection/ electric. The problem I have with it is that the stove top is small due to the controls being on the top. I’m worried that I won’t have space to work and to put my pans comfortably. Also, I’m not sure that convection is all that necessary. Any thoughts?

Just because your children were born in the South doesn't make them Southerners. If a cat has kittens in the oven, does that make them biscuits?
What size range are you thinking of?

Have you looked at models having controls on front of stove? This will be the way I am going for an electric stove just because the controls on rear of stove do take up so much space. Also consider might you be giving up oven space for the convection oven? Might be better to have 1 larger oven as opposed to 1 smaller oven with 1 convection oven?
As to convection, some folks say it works faster by only a few seconds to minutes. I have an '80 JennAire Drop-In with convection but have never been able to detect a great difference in cooking time for baking or roasting. I am not a frequent baker! Long ago I quit trying to use this gadget and will not be paying the extra for convection this time around.
I did attend an Esperience (KitchenAid & Whirlpool) demo in Atlanta where a microwave did brown the cookies. I found this quite interesting but was too costly! So not going this route as few cookies baked in this household!
You mentioned Maytag oven. Should you be a Discover Card user, your Cashback Bonus Awards can be applied toward Maytag product; just which one's, I do not yet know. Have sent email inquiry to Maytag. But do hope I can use if applicable to models I have selected.
