Hey fellas, Looking for help designing trim profile.
I will have knives cut for a molder.
All stock will be cut out of 4/4 poplar. If on some pieces I have to. I would consider using 5/4 stock.
Looking for a modern design with sleek lines.(no sanitary trim) Something with suttle shaddow lines. I need a 4 inch casing for doors, 4 inch chair rail, and 7 inch base molding.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Lou

How sleek? Square stock with eased edges is pretty contemporary looking.
I recently saw some wide casing, mitered to the head casing. The face was bevelled so there was a full 1" or so at the outside edge and 1/4" at the jamb. Kind of like oversized clamshell molding, but the flat face and the 5-1/2" width made the effect elegant, almost like you're walking through a framed piece of artwork.
Baseboard was flat stock, basecap was a piece of beveled stock, similar to the casing.
Another, more conventional idea that's one of my favorites is 1x5 side casing and 5/4 x 6 head casing. Let the head casing overhang the sides of the side casing a bit, then cut the ends of the head casing at a 10 degree angle or so. It's a classic look that can work in modern designs as well. If the scale of the room is small you can use 1x4 sides and a 5/4x5 head.
