I have an old plane I was wondering if anyone could tell me about. It is made by Jos.Wein.It has an all wood body. The name and logo are stamped on the blade. One of the logos is a crest. The other is a “c” clamp. On the back of the blade is a “W”.The blade seems to be hand forged as it has ball peen marks around the thumbscrew,(I am not sure if I have the terminology correct). The logo is also on the top of the plane.Other than that there are no other markings or dates or codes. Also the plane is about 9 1/2 inches long,2 3/8 wide and 2 3/8 tall.It has a wood handle, in fact the only metal is the blade. Any info would be great. Thanks Reinhard

Well Reinhard it looks like nobody is too quick on this one. I'd say sharpen her up and she how she cuts. Collectors that keep good old tools out of the hands of craftsman suck. I'm sure your a craftsman so if you don't need to use this plane often, find a nice place to set it.

*JOE,I have used this plane a few times and it cuts like butter. As for my everyday planes I use a Buck Bros. block plane, and I also use my antique Stanley. The stanley is rusty and looks like hell, but the sole is dead flat and it also cuts like butter. As for the Wein I mostly use it for display.(I have a small collection of antique hand tools, mostly from my girlfriends grandpa.)I also believe tools are meant to be used, so I have no problem pulling out the antiques to go to work! And the older tools in many cases just can't be matched for performance.
