Hey guys,
I’m framing a basement for an ironworker friend of mine. He got all the insulation to do the job, but its unfaced. I wonder if I need plastic over it before I drywall. Ive seen both ways, but I’m not sure what’s best. I have 1″ t&g foam behind the 2×4 stud wall. Tell me what you think.
Thanks

I'd vote "no". Basement will always be wetter on outside than inside (or so we hope) and it should already have waterproofing outside. Shouldn't be an issue with water vapor trying to go through walls to outside, so IMO, no need for VB inside. Also take a look at http://www.buildingscience.com where they discuss this and other such issues.
My understanding is that water vapors can actually do more harm than good. By blocking the moisture in it can cause your frame work to rot. If treated lumber was used for framework then you will still have some potential risk for mold and mildew. I'm getting ready to frame my own basement out and have been doing lots of research. An article that you may want to look at is the Fine Homebuilding "stay-dry, no-mold finished basement". This article is stating very specifically to stay away from water vapors.
Hope this helps.
Good information, I will look up the article myself. I kind of thought the same things. Have a great weedend.
