Ok, we are remodeling the foyer of our house. The house was built in 41, but it really doesn’t have much of a style. It is a ranch, but it does not look like a post war ranch. Think of a simple prewar lake cottage and you’d be close. Anyways, we are using finishes that will back date the house to the 20’s. We were at a local big box and they had a screaming deal on some marble floor tiles. 12×12 size, polished finish. The color is a light dove grey with dusty pink veining and dark red flecks. Really, really nice stuff. We bought it for 50 cents a tile. No question about it, we love the tile. I have a concern though. I’m concerned that it is going to be too contemporary. Now, I can put down a throw rug with a rubber backing to solve the slip issues, but what about the style? How can I back date this tile? We do want to use a decorative border, so could the border save the job?
On the opening page of this link, there is a tile pattern on the left side. I’m using a pressed tin ceiling that is the exact same pattern. If I got this tile in red and green, so you think it would work? http://www.rtkstudios.com/ The ceiling: http://www.tinceiling.com/panels/panels/panel_31.htm
The cabinets are a dirty cream with a crackly finish. The veining is a dark red. The wall paper is this vintage stuff (soft colors) with red flowers and green leaves.
