Well, I’ve gutted my living room and want to insulate with spray foam. The room is 15′ x 18′ with a low pitch roof and I want to rock to the underside of the rafters.( ceiling was flat before at 7’6″) It’s also ground level with easy access from driveway to room. My problem is that of all the insulation contractors I’ve called, only two do it, and they both said they get approx. a $2000. set up fee (plus the cost of the job itself !!! ) This doesn’t sound right to me and I’ve never seen this mentioned in any threads on the subject. Can anyone tell me if this is typical, what they’ve paid per square foot, if I should be looking for a different (or specific type of) contractor. Any input would be appreciated. By the way I’m located on Long Island, New York. Thanks for the help… BUIC

Around here there's a $600 set up charge. I know of a couple who don't charge a set-up fee but their per sqft charge sure makes up for it.
Four hundred dollar set up figured in here. Sounds like they don't really want your job for some reason. It definitely is too small for most installers. It will take them longer to set up and clean up than to do the work, but two grand is ridiculous.
Somebody here has a link to a site wheere you can buy smaller kits to DIY. I think the name is fomofoam or something similar.

frenchy and piffin, Yes, I realize that a single room might be too small a job for most, and I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable premium. My wife and I spend alot of our time in there and feel it would be worth it for the added comfort. Hoping to get a few more points of reference to add to yours, thanks for the replies....Buic
I got my header joist done this fall.About 108 linear feet, 10" joist. The guy quoted $450 to spray to a depth of 3" and he said that he was perfectly willing to spray some other little voids that I had but it could end up being more. He did the whole job including, in my estimation an additional 2 or 3 cu. ft of foam. Final price. $450. That was his minimum charge. If I'd known that before he put his stuff away...Another installer around here charges, I think, $185 to set up plus 65 cents for board foot after that. All that in Canadian dollars since I live in Owen Sound, Ontario.Last year I didn't know what any of this stuff meant.
Thanks for the comparison. I've got about 300 sq. ft. of clg. and 300 of wall and I just got off the phone with a local installer who quoted me $3100.oo (set-up plus job) Wish I lived in Ontario at the moment! BUIC
