Need “very modern” bedroom soffit ideas
I’ve got a client who wants a “very modern looking” structure to hold rope lighting a few inches below the 10 foot ceilings in their master bedroom. They want it to be large, perhaps a foot high, with the top being hollowed an inch or two to hide the string lights. I need ideas on what might qualify as “very modern”. I want to avoid a plain box look and they insist they don’t want the standard crown and trim offerings all built up together. Any idea where I can look for ideas on this? TIA.

Here is what I did. I only have 8' ceilings and the room is not huge. The "not so big" books by Susan Suskana have many other ideas. For full lighting I hid T8 flourscents behind the trim that floods the ceiling with light. The electronic dimmers are nice to change the mood of the room. Not quite what you are thinking, but you never know.

Maybe folded metal--brushed stainless, anodyzed aluminum, oxidized copper or someting like that? Just wood or hardboard painted a bold color? PVC drain pipe cut in half and painted? Plywood covered with a bold fabric (could even be padded to add some sort of shape under the fabric). Dark or frosted Plexiglass, lights would show through a bit? Perforated metal or layers of screen?
