Well I think the first site lit up today with info on the three new releases coming on May 1. Two styles of router and the new MFT.
And new prices. Trying to be unbiased here, the little multi function accesorized to the moon router thing, man. That looks genuinely versatile. I’d have to see that OF2200 router and use it, and probably need to use it a lot every day to spill 800 beans on a router. But solid surface guys might snatch it up. Dunno. Its defineately one huge machine.
I wish the dang Kapex would hit us. I want to know what it costs. The video teasers out there make that look very attractive too. Now we just gotta figure out if we can afford it or not. Pray for a falling Euro.

Yes, I live between the table saw and dust collector. People come find me if they dont mind the dust and want a straight answer. I figure if they're brave enough to come back and ask for an opinion, they can handle whatever it is I have to say on the topic.
Personally, I've never gotten bit by the MFT thing. We all kind of develop our own methods of work. And I really do have to see the router in person to have an opinion. Theres a ton of really slick features in the video but I dunno. Its awful big. And pricy. The little thing, MFK, that one I'll probably end up owning b/c I see, for me, a world of uses. Yea, that's one slick trimmer.Funny thing is - in the video - they don't show off any of the horizontal trimming abilities. They post a price on that yet?The MFT's - I'm with you on that so far - although the fact that they made it lighter helps.Seems like it'd be an awful lot of dinkin around to get it moved in place and set up and tweaked to use for cutting, and if you aren't gonna use it for crosscutting, than it's a little much for a benchtop.I could be persuaded if I saw one in actual use, as opposed to seeing one sitting there at Woodcraft.JT

Thats the link I have for the MFK off festools main site. I dont think in that video they show the horizontal but I know I saw that in a seperate video a couple of weeks ago and that particular feature I thought was fairly impressive. Especially with micro adjustments for depth when turned that way. Trimming solid edging on ply stock, for example. Nice.
The mfk is $510. The OF2200 is $800. I dont recall the MFT price. I suspect the mfk is going to be like the domino . . . theres a price for the basic kit, but by the time you actually get all the gizmos you simply can't live without, you added considerably to it.
Now if you didnt know at the beginning of the year I started working in a local hardwood joint that also happens to sell Festool, so like I told Marty, technically I'm a Festool employee now, albeit not directly, more like through marraige. But I'm purposefully trying to not link to our site and try to keep this thread non advertising and neutral. But anything that you might want to know about the new stuff, if I can find the info, I'll share it if its something you want. Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
you must have cooler things there to hang out with than a dust collector...
what ya got that's awe inspiring???

What, I ain't enough?
Honduran mahog. Birdseye maple. Cleanest alder on the planet. I pretty much dig our TS, which is why I bought an identical one for here. Heck of a machine. I think I mentioned before, but it bears repeating. We have fabulous friggin coffee. Everyone that comes in comments on it. One of our reps, I made him a cup, he lost his whole train of thought and just stared at the cup. He said my gawd, thats the best coffee I've had in my life.
Great little perk. Pun intended.
Oh yeah, good lord we got sandpaper. Webb distributor, so all things SIA. Joest, which makes some really, really, slick pads that already have a cushy back and not so much a 5" 5 hole but perforated with holes so they actually are pretty universal. Lots of guys that have tried those out return for more. Obviously the Festo stuff. Triton. Powermatic & Jet. Wilton. Fastcap. I see Stabila and Bessey in the near future. Hordes of Amana. Personally, I am dead sold on their Ditec line. Those things are forever blades. They cost an arm and a leg, but last forever before you even have to think about the first resharpen.
We got Collins wares, I got a hold of Jim so now we have clam clamps in the joint, waaaaaaaay cool in my book. I'd like to see us get officially in bed with someone on finishes. We've talked to Mohawk/Behlen and General both. Have some of each via other sources.
You're a metal dude. Just got the ability to order Burr-King. Talk about your top end of the quality spectrum.
Between all the options and the coffee, I'm a pretty content little bugger most days. And all the little one off things that need making for the flooring guys, nosings, transitions, whatever. I still get to make a respectable amount of sawdust in the process. It be groovy.

yur not my type....
but that Triton is...
not to mention the coffee...
I have three of the Ditec blades... sweet...
you carry a compliment of the Amana router bits??? CMT??? Cutters???

Well good you aint my type either, sweetheart.
Actually, a lot of the triton routers walk out the door, but I dont much care for them. Thus far, I'm it though. Everyone else loves the things. Which is fine. We cant all like the same stuff. Too boring.
The Amana, I've used a lot of different stuff over the years, as have you, as have probably most of the guys here. That wasnt even my call, it just was when I started there, but they and Whiteside are my top pics for bits. And in all the blades I've ever had, the real cream of the crop, thats a pretty short list, and the Ditec is on it. Kind of depends on application. You can get real real specific on size and tooth geometry and kerf width, hook angle and all that for a specific tool in a specific application.
Trim blades in the slider I still love the matsus. FS tool makes consistantly good stuff, but we dont carry either of those. CMT to me is a Freud with orange paint. Good for a frisbee. I'd give away anything orange if I found it still under a pile of dust in my own shop.
Told you I was opinionated. Sometimes people want to hear it. Other times . . . at least we got good coffee.Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
I don't care much for the CMT blades but have gotten real partial to their router bits...
you can keep the Whiteside junk...

Geez, you should go throw your hat in at the cheap blade thread. You are throwing out blade names I've never heard of. I thought I was getting to be a blade snob. Those guys are using yellow rimmed dewalt blades and happy as can be with em.JT
And arguing with them would be beneficial how? lol. Naw. I dont instigate on Sundays, usually. Look up FS Tool. Actually thought of another one. It was sold as just a run of the mill general purpose, low end trim blade, but it came from Jesada. Back when they really were Jesada and not this third or fourth iteration of an attempt to screw up something that worked. Now I think that Infitnity is actually selling blades out of the same factory since that guy is the son of the guy that started Jesada, but anyway. That was a heck of a nice blade for how cheap it was. Italian made, after that I dont remember exactly.Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
Monday's here.
You're not going to change any minds on the blade thing. Only the ones that haven't already made it up. Someone has a piece of scrap metal spinning fast enough, it'll cut something. If that guy is happy, well. So be it.
We live in a world where getting through the progression of technology is pretty cheap until you're darn near the top of the spectrum. A rock is free. A box store handsaw is 5 bucks. A cheap miter saw is a hundred. You're cutting wood now. Now we get into better wares. 300,400,600 . . . within 98% of the top? And still accessible by your average workaday joe?
Then you get engineering. Companies, tools, thought processes, whatever, that try like heck to always be on that edge. We usually don't realise its the edge because of marketing. But to the engineer types, they're trying to stay ahead of everyone. New geometries, new carbides, new everything. And the cost . . . of course. You want it, you pay for it. R&D aint free. Yesterdays technology will always be cheaper.
Nobody changes their mind on this until they have some personal reason. They gotta be doing something that requires something that whatever they currently have won't do. And theres not a lot of that out there. Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
I wish the dang Kapex would hit us.
Was watching TOH last week and noticed Tom SIlva had one set up and even showed him using it. He must have connections, he's been a big Festool user for years. Wonder if they give him the tools, hoping they get a little free promo from the show.

When you make as much as he does - it don't matter if a company throw a few thou worth of tools to you.You make that much, there's enough in the budget to buy all the Festools you like.JT
