Hi,
I went to get another MAX framing nailer, full round head. The only one available was an
SN883RH which is slighlty different from the other I have.
This one is smaller and lighter. I have no idea if it’s better. I’m the kind of guy who when he finds something he likes sticks with it and the “original” Max Superframer is GREAT!
I went ahead and got this one as it has a 30 day money back deal so I’ll eventually find out for myself, but meanwhile it’d be nice to get some feed back on it and if it’s a total lemon search out ol’ reliable.
Thanks,

I briefly saw it at JLC LIVE this weekend, but didn't get to play with it. So I can't tell you anything, but the experience I've had with Max tools has been very postitive. The Superframer stick and coil nailers were nice guns, the high pressure system is awesome and our trim guy has the 23ga pinner and likes it. They are very high quality.
I hope the new gun shoots faster than the the other guns. That is the only thing I didn't/don't like. Hitachis shoot faster.
Hmmmmm...
Could be that new that few have tried it out.
So here's my initial impressions compared to the SN890RH which received such high marks.
First of all I choose tools based on longevity or what i perceive will give me a long working life. I've done many a job far from tool stores where a failure of say a framing nailer can mean loss of several days work. Not good!
So...
First this gun is smaller and lighter, will easily fit between 16"oc studs with a 12" height. Good
I beleive it's about 7.2 lbs @ 2lbs lighter that the SN890RH. To acheive that there is a bit more plastic which has me concerned. On the depth adjustment there is a very flimsy piece that appears to be little more than a dust cover. Unfortunatly it looks like it will contact the ground when dropped or set down...not to mention "abused" from normal work. Some other parts seem to have been pared down but not irresponsably. But that plastic will break eventually: Not so good.
Depth adjustment feels a bit more solid and positive: Good
Lacking features from SN890RH: The exhaust is a stationary port in the front which points down towards the tip. No movable, aimable exhaust. No big deal.
Now my biggest gripe is the jammed nail extraction. It has an "open nose" design compared to the nice hatch on the SN890RH. The instructions just have a small drawing of a guy prying out a jammed nail with a screwdriver. Hmmmm....Not good..in fact BAD. BUT!! I have yet to have it jam a nail so..and my SN890RH NEVER jammed nails so.... but still I'm sure you can feel my apprehension: Bad
Power...seems equal to other nailers so far. I've yet to really run it through it's paces so this is an unfair assesment. So much depnds upon the compressor/nailer combo IMO. My test always being how far can I run a stick of nails though without stopping with my 4gal 2hp RolAir as in nailing off sheathing.:Unknown
Sorry to be premature on this "review" but I'm considering returning it. The SN890RH is the finest framer available along with the Hitachi IMO. To tweak the design so drastically to save a few pounds have me concerned although the working parts seem to be just as rugged as always. I have it on a 30 day money back "if not abused" (how do you not abuse a framing nailer to see how it will hold up?) and will confrim how far I can push it tomorrow and still return.
Still looking for someone who has pushed this tool to calm my fears.
Thanks,

I'm curious as to what you paid for this new nailer? I've got one of the original Superframers that is a back up to my 5 Hitachis and while I think it a fantastic gun that was thoughtfully designed and built with integrity... it's just a hair too slow compared to the Hitachi's.
But this new little guy you're talking about has my ears all perked up.View Image
Hi,I paid $279 + tax here in SoCal. Whitecap. But online the price is $311 I beleive.I beleive it was on special so you may very well be able to match that price on line with a call to them.Website is http://www.whitecapdirect.comNo commercial interest passed along as general info...10saw
you're a certified tool nut, why don't you have the max high pressure system yet?
Cuz my other guns would get jealous. ;)View Image
When I was at the Remodeling show I saw there high pressure system and watched them shoot a nail through a 2x and into what I recall to be 1/4" steel tube....
Impressive.
and a tad scary...
