A few weeks ago I bought the Rigid Miter Saw Utility Vehicle that goes on sale every year for $99 (thanks to a heads up from Slateman). Yesterday at HD I saw a new design–imagine the MSUV crossed with a Dewalt stand crossed with the base from Rigid’s jobsite tablesaw. $169.
Anyone else seen this yet? Looks like a really nice stand. Maybe I need another one….

U talkin' 'bout this? Looks cool.

Nope, that's the "old" one, the one I bought that's been out a few years. I couldn't find a picture of the new one. Same idea but with rails on the top like on the Dewalt--you bolt auxiliary "legs" to your miter saw which then clamp onto the integral rails on the stand.
The design of the new one has more round tube steel--looks more "designed" and less like something that you welded together in your shop.
I can't find a picture of one either. Haven't seen them yet. Now I have to look at HD. This sounds good.

Picked one up 3 weeks ago. Gonna assemble it today.
If the one you are talking about is the one in Gene's link, I have used it. Nice stand but it takes up alot of room when it's not being used.
I will remember before I forget.
I went by two home depots today looking for this marvel of modern mitre saw stands. Didn't see one. You sure you can't find a picture? I'm really curious now.

I saw it too last week. At first I thought the price of the old ones went back up because the box looks just like the old ones. But then I noticed the Dewalt style mount on the box. They were sitting on the floor still stacked and wrapped on a pallet with the $169 price.
I wonder why Ridgid and Home Depot aren't pimping them on their web sites.

Thanks man. I was hoping it had the solid arms like the saw helper. I'm still interested though.

How many chopsaw stands do you already have?
I've got 3, for only 2 saws. The Dewalt, and the Ridgid, and some cheap piece of junk.
But I'd really like to get the Sawhelper stand ( http://www.sawhelper.com ).
I only have the Ridgid. I use it for my big saw, and I have my small one mounted in my bench.
I'm wanting to use the Ridgid for my planer because I think it would be better for that. And get a better one for my big Makita. I really should hold out for the saw helper because in my heart I know that is the one I'm going to wind up with anyway. I've got too much stuff in the rafters now.

Put the planer on the Ridgid; it works great. Esp. because you've got that new DeWalt, right? That sucker weighs a bit.
Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
The only portable Mitre stand I have is the Ridgid............SO far.
Edit to add: Doh you meant the Dewalt Planer. Yes I have the big heavy mother.
Who dares, wins.

No, I just bought the old version a few weeks ago so I couldn't really justify it. I didn't get a chance to play with it in the store but at a glance it looked like the outfeed supports worked pretty much like the old version. It seemed to weigh less than the old one but still no lightweight.
I like the solid table. That's my biggest beef with sawhelper, Dewalt, and the rest of them--no place to put a few cutoffs or a pencil sharpener (I like the electric kind).
Next time I'm there I'll do some more recon.
Better hurry back.
You know how Gunner gets.

They have them in my local HD at $149.00They are not unboxed, so hard to get a feel for what they are really like.I'll tell you this though - the specs say they weigh 96lbs. - damn!, I thought the old one was heavy!Don't let the pics fool you - you may think the main rail is an aluminum extrusion - but that sucker is made of steel.I'll stay with my 35lb Dewalt for the moment. You are correct about having an offcut table - might be a good idea to rig one up.JT
96 POUNDS??? Holy shid...so with my DW SCMS on top I'll need a crane to move it...hmmmm
You know, not to generalize, but the 29% of people who still support President Bush are the ones who love to pronounce themselves more patriotic than the rest of us. But just saying you're patriotic is like saying you have a big one. If you have to say it, chances are it's not true.

That's pretty heavy for a roll around stand. Must be they designed it just for shop use.
That's kill me loading and unloading without a ramp.

The weight is the only reason I didn't buy the old Rigid stand. I've got to pick that thing up about 4 feet to get in in the back of my truck, on top of the tool drawers. Last thing I want is for my 50 lb miter saw to be bolted to 80 lbs of steel.zak

Ya, I use an old wheeled Delta stand with a DWmiter that is a lot lighter than that, tho' I don't have the stats.
I fold the legs up on the wheel side and roll it like a wheelbarrel to the truck, put the open legs on the bed and lift it to slide in.
It's a grunt but doable. Doing that with a 96lb. stand would get old pretty quick.

"96 POUNDS??? Holy shid...so with my DW SCMS on top I'll need a crane to move it...hmmmm"Isn't that a trailer hitch just under the outfeed roller? :)

I checked out the stand in more depth today. The sales woman who assembled it showed me some of the features.
It is heavy. Heavier than the old one.
The collapsing mechanism works pretty much exactly like the old one, but not nearly as smoothly. The spring is very strong, so strong that I think it's making the slide arms bind up in their slots.
The outfeed supports work exactly like those on the old one.
Pretty much the only difference I could see is the Dewalt-style lift-off arms that bolt onto your saw. That and the overall sexy look.
The sales woman said they are replacing the old model with this one. So this is the last $99 sale on the beloved old model!
Looks much better than the old design. Looks like stoppers to keep it from rolling when stood up and looks a little lighter than the old style. i might think about buying it after I go see it .
The old weighs like 80lbs empty!Looks interesting though, donut?JT
78# (which is "like 80#") according to this:

The old one is really nice - I had it for a while. It's a modern wonder of engineering. My dislikes were that it only allowed for extensions upto 4' from either side. and, to use the extensions as stops was a pain in the butt cause the adjustment for the extens was real sticky - you'd go to set it and it doesn't slide that smooth and you'd be going back and forth trying to get it in the right spot. Also -it's heavy as hell.If I wanted one for my garage - it'd be the next best thing to building a custom setup - and for $100 it's a no brainer, but I needed something for my trailer to take with me to jobs and it was just too damn bulky. The Dewalt is lightweight, has extensions that go upto 9-10' from the saw and is simple.JT
I have the original with DW 705 on it. Agree that it is heavy. I use the Ridgid flip tops for really long stuff ( or my main DW-Linda). When I transport it I either put one of the receiver hitch platforms on the truck and have a plywood ramp that I cobbled together for a lawnmower. It rides well on the carrier and is tied down with a rachet strap.
I am waiting for HDT to get some more DW718s in and am going to go ahead and pull the trigger on one and the DW stand. He had that combo for $550 and I missed it ( had to tell Mark's dad to spank him for not letting me know (;-)).
Someone was talking about the big table, I like that but any flat spot within a half mile radius of my jobsites get covered with junk within one day of arrival. At first look the new Ridgid looks cool but if it is that heavy I think they blew it.
Bob
I picked up the 718 a while back. Everyone was dogging it for the castings being a bit rough, so F* what? What I like about it is that it only weighs 55lbs, and it's super shallow front to back, even though it has the best crosscut capability. The Bosch 12" slide seems like it is 3 1/2" deep!, plus it weighs close to 80lbs.I picked mine up at Costcos - they had a one time deal where you got the 718 + a high quality Dewalt woodworking blade (not that yellow crap) + a complete Dewalt 9.6 volt cordless drill kit for $499.00I might've returned the 9.6 kit to Lowes for a $89 giftcard, but I'm not telling anyone...I picked up the laser attach cause the HD folks screwed up and sold it to me for $29 - figured I couldn't pass that up - haven't had a chance to calibrate it yet so can't make any comments about it's accuracy. The 718 replaced an older Bosch 13amp 10" slider that was getting long in the tooth and was a bit underpowered and less than accurate when doing longer bevel cuts.JT
I have been considering one since the 708 was out. Still have not put together sufficient justification but figure I would rather spend it at HDT than send a portion of what I made on this last large (for us) job to the tax man.
Multimaster, Fein vac, attachments and filters and the saw should make a dent. Considering adding a Bosch cordless combo as I am slowly moving to dark Blue from yellow.
What does everyone think about the ryobi for 99? acording to specs its oly 10 lbs I find that hard to believe
http://www.ryobitools.com/power-tools/tool/a18ms01/
I don't trust anything Ryobi makes. Just can't.
Could always use that as the base product and custom fit it to meet your needs.
Parolee # 53804
It's definately over 10 pounds by looking at it.But why buy what you know is going to end up being a peice of crap that will not stand the test of time or the workplace. At the very least you are inviting a bunch of broken knobs and feet into your life down the line. Rusty legs, peeling labels. At $100 - you'd be much better off with one of the simple sawmate brand models - they are super well built and sturdy - just not near as pretty and featured as the Dewalt or Bosch.Or, pick up the original Ridgid stand for $100 most HD's - heavy as heck but super well built and easy to roll in and out of the trailer if need be - that'd be a $100 well spent.Buy anything Ryobi and you will regret it. I know there are guys that swear by their cheap #### Ryobi combos and say if it last more than a year or gets stolen - it was worth the cheap price. I'd say that some of those folks might not recognize the difference between a good tool and a peice of crap. At the very least you are looking at piss poor battery performance & battery life and probably a smokin motor at some point.JT
I own nothing from Ryobi because I have known there stuff to be crap. But this thing is a no brainer. It is solid . I looked it over today . It almost the same thing as the Dewalt for half the price. the major difference I see is steel vs aluminum. I have looked over thr Ridgid already and dont like th weight.
Julian,
My 2 cents.
I would NEVER buy a Ryobi tool.
Except MAYBE the stand. I've looked at it, almost identical in design as the yellow one. Doesn't look to bad at all.
You should look at it if you get the chance.
As for the rest of the Ryobi line.................mi no gusta![email protected]
Alltrade,
I use it with my Bosch and I like it. It weighs WAY more than 10 lbs. but is seems more rigid then most of the ones I've looked at and I like the size it folds up too.
Well i picked up the Ryobi. It was my first and most likley last time i buy Ryobi but its great! It is more than ten pounds but thats part of what i like about it. Its solid ! I am very happy with it.
Every thing the Dewalt is and its full proof design will last a very long time. At only $90.00 after 10% off its a steal compard to the others.
WOW! I want one.
VERY COOL!
Thanks for the pics.
Those supports extend out as on the original, yes?

That new-style Ridgid miter saw stand looks very interesting. Thanks for posting the pics.I've asked about it at 5 different HD stores in my area (Orange County, CA) and no one knows what I'm talking about. It's also not on the HD website or the Ridgid site. So how come you Maine-iacs get the slick toys before we mere mortals do?

Any Word on Bosch's new miter saw stand coming out? Read something a while back, it's gonna have bigger all-terrain wheels, like the Rigid, instead of the tiny ones on their trac-rac version. I ask, because their gravity-rise table saw stand is such a Design Winner.
"Any Word on Bosch's new miter saw stand coming out? "
Here's an article on it. http://toolmonger.com/2007/02/15/preview-boschs-gravity-rise-miter-saw-stand/
I e-mailed Bosch two weeks ago to ask when it will be released and to verify the 16' lateral support mentioned in the article. Someone responded and said that she had "no more info than what was in the ToolBlogger article."
View ImageBruceT
Have you heard any more info on this stand? I would like it by it's looks. I was kind a thinkin and if you had a sliding base left or right you could get the distance you need to support 16' stock without having such a long base.
Or has any body got the delta stand 36-136 and if so what say ye.
View Image
I did try to search for delta mitre saw stand and got 0 after about 45 seconds.
I was also thinking hey I have an old sawbuck wonder if I should be shot if I took the original saw off and just used the stand?
I kinda thought if I live long enough it would be a great collectors find at my estate sale.
I use the old style delta stand and if you're not planning on customizing the 36-136 and putting the larger wheels back on I'd run from that thing real fast.
I do not mean to prescribe rules to strong and valiant natures, who will mind their own affairs whether in heaven or hell, and perchance build more magnificently and spend more lavishly than the richest, without ever impoverishing themselves, not knowing how they live — if, indeed, there are any such, as has been dreamed; nor to those who find their encouragement and inspiration in precisely the present condition of things, and cherish it with the fondness and enthusiasm of lovers — and, to some extent, I reckon myself in this number; I do not speak to those who are well employed, in whatever circumstances, and they know whether they are well employed or not; — but mainly to the mass of men who are discontented, and idly complaining of the hardness of their lot or of the times, when they might improve them.

I checked that stand out at a tool store today. Looks ok, same idea as the Ridgid. It seemed like there were a lot of fiddly little parts that would get gummed up with sawdust or just plain broken, but then again my crew and I are fairly hard on tools.
The wheels on the Delta look pretty wimpy, ok for indoor use but right now we're working outside on a sandy site and the big wheels on the Ridgid are great.
