I’m residing 1914 farmhouse with #1 cedar shingles with about a 6″ exposure. It currently has a horizontal siding (about a 3″ exposure in a double lap plank) with too many patches and too many layers of alligator paint to clean up and repaint. It is sound and weather”proof”. Interior of exterior walls have 1″ Thermax under 1/2″GWB. 2X4 walls have r-11 insulation.
1) Should I use felt paper under shingles? What weight- 15#, 30# and why? Tyvek-type barrier?
2)Will narrow crown staples work as well as wide crown or shingle nails?
3) I plan to roll sides and edges or dip before installation with Superduck. Pros, cons, comments would be appreciated.
