New shower instillation in a power room
Hello,
I’m working on a half a bath and I’ve gutted the place took out toilet and sink, also took out a 2 walls to put a 4′ x 4′ shower to make it a 2nd full bathroom. The house is a rancher with a crawl space for running the pipes and electric.
I tore up the floor first the tile then a 1/16″ Formica sheet and under that there was a 3/4″ of plywood and under that use a piece of roofing felt then the 1″x6″ boards. Know I want to prep the floor for the new shower and the rest of the bath room. What r the steps to prep the floor for tile and the walls. What is the best way of sealing the floor so it does not let water reach the wood floors.
All help is much appreciated.

Looks like you did all that work for nothing. You can't put a shower in a power room.<G!>

Oh, he understands alright. Review your post and watch for the spelling errors.

Huh? I've converted plenty of half baths to three quarters.
1. Determine if the joists and floor system are good for tile. You need L360.
2. You haven't indicated what the tile or setting bed is and the tile--figure this out. Mud or Hardi; Stone, Porceline, or other fired tile. This will effect issue 1 above.
3. Generally with Hardi, there is little you can do to truly waterproof the application. You can't put tar paper down, but you can apply a trowel on membrane like Laticrete 9235. With mud, there will be a layer of tar paper below the lathe.

Boris,
TU 4 your response. The floor studs are in great shape. No moisture has reached the juices and they are 16" spaced. the floor has a true 1" x 6" cover that is running at a adhere angle to the studs to sure up the floors.
The tile we are using for the floor is a salt and pepper black and white 12" x12" sheet with 1" white and black squares witha mesh backing to hold them together. I hope that is clear enough. I'm sorry I don't have pics.
Once I replace the filet, 3/4" plywood floor what r the steps to sealing the floor ie backer boars then a cement base on top of that then the grout then the tile.
