Have a project coming up, the owner says he wants to add a window on the 2nd floor. New construction window, presumably with flanges. Not sure yet if it’ll have integral J-channel.
I’m always at a loss when it comes to reworking the siding. Can’t nail the flanges or J-channel behind the existing vinyl.
Ideally, I’d peel off all the pieces, install the window, then cut the vinyl to fit.
Any tricks to making this easier? I’ll be working off a ladder, solo, and is it getting cool enough where I should worry about the old vinyl cracking?
This part of the job’s T&M, but I don’t want to be out of line. Other work is promised if this one works out.

The down and dirty answer is to cut off the flanges.
I installed two just like this and we took the siding off and reinstalled but then I'm not a "pro" so what do I know about doing it right.
If you want to do it well, your right about peeling the siding. Then you can flaash the window well also. Get your self a little zip tool if you don't already have it. Hooks in the bottom of the siding so you can unsnap it.

I hope the window is larger than existing, otherwise you will be hunting some more siding to match!
The zipper tool is your friend:
Wide Body vinyl siding removal tool w/ grip.
Straight handle vinyl siding removal tool w/ grip.
With this tool you can unlock the vinyl without haveing to remove all of the siding.
