Now that many are now charging for “estimates”,and I think that number will increase as the years tick by, here’s the next issue that will also take guts:
Taking or running a credit report check on clients for projects over, say $10,000.
When “they” sign on the dotted line, “we” actually extend credit to them for the subsequent pay outs and final payment, don’t we? Granted “they” have to have a lot of confidence in us when giving us a deposit check, but usually that deposit amount is a fraction of most pay outs. Where else can anyone “borrow” monies for any amount for that matter, without having to fill out a credit application? Try getting a credit card, buying even a used car, or borrowing from a bank for a loan just for 2 weeks without having to fill out a credit app. I’ve read in our trade mags that some remodelers do that now, and many window and siding companies have been doing that for years.
