Gene,
Not sure if you knew, thats a japanese style hammer, and he probably got it at Woodbutcher Tools... a coveted tools store associated with the Shelter Institute- timber frame houses in Maine.

Mine looks sort of like it, and is from Shark tools. Mine's a big beater for framing . . . the one in the pic looks like maybe a 16-ouncer.
I've driven by the woodbutcher tool shop up past bath but have never been in. Is it cool or what? By the way, I'm down the road from you in Old Orchard. Are you a contractor?

Dustin,
Thanks for saying something, Mike Maines is around Portland as well.
Yes definitely go as soon as you can to Woodbutcher... ahhh unless you dont want to buy anything. They have great tools and book collection. They must have 40 different Japanese pull saws, and about as many chisels. Make sure you have the hours... I think they are open during the week til around 5, and Saturday I think maybe 4. Earlier is safer, closed on Sunday.
Im a custom painter and finish carpenter, I have a specialty interiors business.

I might have to wait to build up the ole savings account before I take the trip. Big time tool junkie here, with an unnormal fetish for nice hand tools. I'd love to see some of your work, shoot a couple pics my way if you can. We'll have to chat again.

I've been using a similar one made by Takagi tools for about 6 years...great hammer. Mine's called the homing hammer. Has a fiberglass handle, weighs 14 oz. Perfect balance & has a mean claw for pulling nails. Here's a link...
