Hi Folks,
The brass plated hinges that came with my exterior doors have given it up after three years in the Florida sun and rain. I’m going to change them out with stainless steel but then saw the nickel plated ones billed as “good as stainless”.
I’m skeptical as a set of three is the same cost as one stainless one. Are they as good or are they just better than brass.
I want to change these ONCE and get at least 10 years out of them.
Any thoughts? Thanks
Mike

One word answer, NO.

Blum cabinet hinges are nickel plated and I've seen plenty of rust on them where they get splashed under sinks etc

ss, np will wear thru at hinge pints and start corrosion.
Nickel is extremely corrosion resistant, but where it wears through there is probably plain steel underneath and you'll get rust. If you want ten year life, I'd go for the stainless steel. With stainless steel screws, of course.
and not all stainless is "stainless"
there are different grades, some will rust/pit to some degree. there is a lot of cheap junk out there.
and not all stainless is "stainless"
LOL I had to explain somethin like that to my bro in law
after his ss basketball post was starting to rust I had to explain that stainless means it stains less not stain proof.
Brass is a poor choice, as you already know, for salt air exposure. Stainless is far better than any other metal plated. Chrome plated stainless steel would be a good choice.
Guys,
Thanks for your input. The nickel ones look good in the package but you all have confirmed my suspicions of how they would last...
