After only 5 years of service my Fein Turbo II vacuum is dying.R2D2 life wasnt that terrible..some drywall.but it was taken care of pretty good. Now louder/shriller and yesterday the dreaded electrical smell. Called Fein repair…rebuild motor-$200!!!.Hmm tthats 90% of new ones price?!What a poor disposable costly joke on me and german engineering. Of course the old 750db. POS shopvac is laffing over in the corner of the shop. Any other vacs I should check out on the way to a bridge in Brooklyn im lookin at buying?

uderstand that festo, and fein are all great vac. but the price just kills me . so i went and bought the largest ridgid from the home dump , and a pair of ear protectors , and have abused the livin' hell out of it . and for what i paid for it with the muffs. ..... i happy and i went and bought the bosch random orbital sander with the savings plus alittle. and the vac, also has apretty good detachable blower that i hardly use. but when i want the deck cleared or something like that it's pretty handy. 5 years.
And it was used for drywall dust.
Pretty good !
That's as long as any of my shop vacs lasted, and more than most.
If the difference in decibels isn't worth the difference in price to you, then do as Bear says. Get a cheaper one, and hearing protectors...

I have the same vac, love it, 3 yrs now...so quiet. But I hear you ...you'd hate to try another thinking this was a one off problem and have it happen again.
I HATE earmuffs, safety glasses and tool belts and all that. If I have to get "dressed" everytime i fire up the vac, I'll get a desk job! LOL
Maybe the Bosch is worth a look? Festool stuff (I have their saw sstem) is really nice too.
