We have a problem in our two story 25 year old stick built house located in Edmonton where we have temperature swings from -30 to + 30. A noise can be heard in the master bedroom that appears to be coming from the furnace. You can hear the noise from no other location in the house. We had the furnace inspected and the furnace vibration is within acceptable limits. We thought that it might be the gas line rubbing against the wood timbers and have enlarged some holes and filled others with insulation. This hasn’t stop the noise.
We run the fan continually, and have found that the noise stops when the fan stops, but no one can find a problem with the furnace.
The noise radiates from the wall cavity. Could it be the bathroom stack, if so, any suggestions on how to stop the noise? Any other ideas on what could be causing the noise.

could you describe the noise? - -
no fan = no noise , but noise only in MB - - loose duct tape in the duct leading to the bedroom? - - out of balance fan vibrating a loose duct connection? - - some one dropped somthing in the register that is stuck and rattling or flapping? - -
IT IS A CONSTANT HUMMING NOISE.
well, hums are usually associated with 60 cycle electricity - the fan motor - why you only hear it in the bedroom (you are sure about this? - it is not just because the bedroom is the quiet room?) would relate to the sound reflection thru the ducts - a whisper line if you will - a change in the geometry of the duct could help in this situation - -
perhaps a HVAC person will check in...."there's enough for everyone"
