I have a very noisy floor- hoping that someone has some ideas on how to correct it. The floor is cork tiles glued on underlayment. The adhesive used under the 1/4″ underlayment is (instead of just sticking) making popping noises.. it sticks when stepped on, then releases, creating the noise. The old sub floor was uneven, creating the potential for this… but even in areas with new, flat sub floor, the glue is doing this. The adhesive was some kind of construction glue from a tube. Most of the floor is accessible from crawl/basement. Spot treatment using a hole saw and drilling all the way to the underlayment from below, and then injecting plastic resin adhesive has been unsuccessful… the noise just moves to an adjacent area. The cracking noise when walked on irritates the beck out of me. Anyone have a magic bullet for this one, short of starting over?

Sorry, not a lot of help can be had.
You now know that you should have glued and screwed the hell out of the underlay and then used a floor leveler.
Glue is not a substitute for screws or vice versa. But when you use enough of each together, no squeeky floors.
To bad you will have to ruin a cork floor.
You have already tried the bandaid solution, time for the return of square one.

*Owner,Gregor ConstructionI agree with Mr. Martel. If you do decide to tear up the floor, you might try (as a last resort) face nailing the floor using 1/4" x 1 3/8" finish staples and then filling the small slit with wood putty. The staples may work loose over time, but I've been surprised by their holding power.
