Our prices jumped too. Maybe they're preparing for the summer season
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
Went up from $1.94 to $2.15 overnight, then to $2.19 a couple of days later. Haven't been following crude prices that closely, but I got the impression that they're down.
Nope, crude is way up. $58 and change on friday. from $35ish
makes no sense. highest inventories since 1982. How does that happen? must be a conspriacy
In a way it probably makes sense. The crude futures market could be expected to operate about like the stock market and anticipate economic conditions 3-6 months hence. If they believe that the global economy is improving then futures prices will go up.And of course when futures go up the producers raise the current prices.

Speculation, speculation, speculation, the same thing that started that ridiculous run-up last year and undoubtedly will repeat itself. Three months ago money was chasing the "safety" of the US dollar, interest rates were low on treasuries, etc., now a slight uptick in the stock market, interest rates are climbing and commodities are following suite. This includes oil and natural gas, even though we have large stockpiles and sufficient production for the state of the economy. Copper prices have also risen steadily this year. Maybe a little bit more recession would be a good thing, keep the speculators in check!
Like, you think they need a reason to raise prices?
Gasoline stayed at 74.9 per liter all winter after dropping to that level last fall when the world went to hell in a handbasket. That was the lowest level we've seen here in years.
Come spring, the oil companies started jacking the prices around on a daily or semi-weekly basis--up, down again, back up a little higher, down a tad, up some more, etc. Funny how every gas station in town changed their prices to exactly the same level within 20 minutes of each other. Really Funny, that....
The summer driving season is coming up and they know it. The bastards want those prices up before it gets here, and as long as nobody stops them doing it, they will.

$2.679 today

Overnight went up from $2.199 to $2.299. I'd been stretching a tank on the theory that it was due for a downward bounce, but I blew it -- had to fill up today to run up to the Cities this PM.
