Its…perfect? I need a new portable compressor. I went to buy the 4 gallon Emglo, but then I saw the Dewalt. I can’t stand Dewalt. But I think I can put up with that garish, tacky lookin’ thing. Man, what a beautiful design. Anyone seen it? Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is protected inside a roll cage. The gauges are huge and easy to read, and the pump is a Fini (sp?), the same ones used in Emglows. Does anyone have something bad to say about these before plop down the extra 60 bucks to get it?

Thomas,
Your message peaked my interest enough to go to the DeWalt website and check it out, all I can say is WOW! I too, have never liked their tools and do not own any but would definatly buy that compressor without any hesitation. By what the website shows, that compressor is in fact a product made by Emglo, just with a DW paint job. Also during searching, I ran across somthing saying DW will soon introduce pnumatic nailers to complement the compressor line.
I just may have to start taking another look at the ugly yellow tools.

*BTW.....what is the price on the compressor and where?GK
*Give it time, It'll probably start sprouting feathers, check the guaranty. If its yellow you'll probly need to use it.
*Gabe, I saw it for $350 at both Home Depot and at the local place. I'm buying from the local guys. $350, ouch! I was planning on spending $290 on the Emglow. But I can't resist. Its only 60 bucks anyway. Seems like it would survive a lot of knocks. I'm still leery of it, but I think I'll take a chance. I wonder if the air filter is crappy, or if the drain valve is crap....that's the kind of thing I don't trust DeWalt for. But if Emglow built it....I wonder if they designed it too?I'll give a report after some use.
*Guys - If you've been around long enough, you should know the drill (pardon the pun!). Black & Decker is notorious for buying into a product line, raising the price while figuring out how to make the product cheaper and then tosing the product on the heap:Examples - DeWalt - the original Dewalt made only radial arm saws till B&D finished with them - now the name is just a marketing tool; WorkMate - a wonderful bench that B&D eventually ran into the ground; Elu made great routers till B&D bought them - they're now second best at the most; Master Power Air Tools - B&D did everthing possible to destroy them, finally selling them to the managers - now part of Cooper Tools and trying to regain their proud name; McCullough Chain Saws - bought by B&D - need I say more? And now Emglo was recently purchased by B&D to be marketed as a DeWalt tool - look for a lower quality product, higher prices and planned obselesence. If you need a professional tool, buy from a professional tool manufacturer, not a consumer products company that can't figure out if air tools or toasters should be promoted today!
*Tom, hold on there pal. That same compressor that has got you all riled up is also available as an Emglo. Saw a handful of them at my supply house last week. All painted that lovely blue color that we have come to know and love. Price was as you said about $350.00. I can't stand Dewalt products or their product support, but since the two compressors appear to be identical, looks like a go. Call Emglo if you haven't purchased anything yet and I know they will supply you with the model number. Good luck.
*Just tell me that Emglo, the tried and true standard of the industy, backbone of steel company did not sell out to those cheap ass yellow shit piles of garbage at dewalt. Buying the unpainted compressors and painting them yellow as their own I can handle. But not the whole company.
*Do yourself a favor and check out what Thomas has. Their 150st kicked butt, but I see they have a 200st now. The 150 put out numbers only barrow comps did, yet ran off a 15 amp circuit. Their motors are quality, and their fittings will last. The 150 was about $350, bye bye Emglo...Oh ya, I should once again give credit for this find to Jeff Buck. He loves being famous, but if it wasn't for him I never would have looked into them. What Thomas needs is a webpage that works, geez, their numbers blow the doors off anything in the portable market, but I can't get you a link.Hmm, we had this discussion before, and I think I posted the specs I got from the rep. I can do this. Hold on, manual search.
*see below, wrote the code wrong and double posted, doh.
* old comp threadSure saw a lot of Dewalt sucks while I searched for this. But that doesn't mean anything. In any case, these numbers are old, but they still blow off any portable.
*Folks - take a look at this web site http://www.emglo.com/ - the splash page will tell you everything you need to know. Bye Bye Emglo. In 10 years it will be on the dirt pile just like DeWalt radial arm saws, WorkMates, Holeguns, Master Power, Elu, etc. But they make a heck of a toaster!
*Yeah, Thomas kicks ass ;-) I wish I could get one quick. I bought the DeWalt/Emglo today. I was running a siding gun offa it...nothing taxing. Sounds like an Emglo, pumps air fine, and is embarassing to look at. Its gonna get a nice paint job one of these days. Maybe black, with "EMGLOW R.I.P" painted in the style of DeWalt's logo. The only pain in the ass is trying to turn the drain valve without shooting cold air right at your palm. But man, I KNOW this compressor will take abuse (accidents) that others won't. The design is too good. OK, I saw a Porter Cable hand-carry compressor with a nice roll cage too.
*Don't get me wrong, Emglos are fine and take a beating, trust me, they are the top of the heap. But Thomas kicks butt... ha
*Marshall, your message delayed my purchase for 12 hours! I looked, but couldn't find the pretty blue version locally. I bought the ugly yellow one at the last minute. Thanks for the tip.
*Thomas compressors are actually on many other "branded" compressors....That is there main market.near the stream,aj
*From the Emglo web site.DEWALT Industrial Tools and Accessories Buys Emglo Air Compressor Company BALTIMORE, December 15, 2000DEWALT Industrial Tools and Accessories announced today it has purchased the Emglo air compressor company from Stonewood Capital Management, Inc. for an undisclosed amount. Based in Johnstown, PA, Emglo makes air compressors for the contractor and industrial markets and is the compressor brand-of-choice for professional contractors. Stonewood Capital is a Pittsburgh-based private venture capital and management buyout firm and had owned Emglo since 1996.
*Yeah? Which ones?
*Ah, Workmates. I have an older Workmate (original top/improved legs version) - heavy like a son-of-a-gun, but still ticking after these years. I even have the Mitremate and Routermate accessories for it. Looked at a new one ? Junk ! It's really a shame.
*I just got the Tool Authority catalog in the mail and the front cover has the new DeWalt guns. they have that typical yellow plastic look to them.here goes,Clipped head framer - $329.99Full head framer - $329.9915ga. finish - $249.9916ga. finish - $189.9918ga. brad (2")- $144.99Their website is http://www.toolauthority.comAnd I gotta agree no yellow stuff in my truck or shop!
*I've got 2 originals also..still remember the jingle.."you can saw on it, pound on it, plane a door on it and so much more on it.( get bored in the shop and nail the old lady on it I guess)
