Okay Wood Workers – Window Trim Questions
First, design. We have Andersen windows, and the contractor ordered and installed them with these jamb extensions.
They (sort of) sit flush with the walls. (More on that in a second.) We’re planning on using 1X4 red oak for casings, with a 3/8″ round-over on the inside edge, and the same 1X4 for trim underneath the window, but without the rounded edge. We’ll use 1X6 above the window, and it will overhang the casings a bit on each side. In terms of asthetics, will the windows look funny without a sill that extends beyond the drywall, creating a visual line between the casing and the bottom trim? If we add a piece of trim horizontally, to simulate a sill, will that look silly, since the sill/jambs are clear pine and we want to use oak? (I don’t mind the oak against the pine when it’s not in the same plane, if that makes sense.)
Here’s a picture of some mocked-up trim. The pieces are just resting in place, some with stain, some without. This is just to illustrate the look we’re going for. Where the windows meet the floor, the bottom of the window trim will be the same as the baseboard. I’ll scribe the baseboard to fit. We’re not planning on using any shoe or cap for the baseboard. I’m running into a problem, though.
Now the problem, with a how-to question. The jamb extensions on the windows are not flush everywhere. Where the drywall sticks out further, I can trim it away, but what about when the jambs stick out beyond the drywall? How do you deal with that?

Extension stick out beyond how much?
Too much and you could plane them down. Not real easy but doable. You can maybe run a router down the face of the wall with a dado bit in it. I have used a trim router with a hinge mortising bit in it.
Be wary of nails, set them deep.
Or, you can add to the backside of the casing if you can safely and accurately freehand rip them.
or
if minimally proud, caulk afterwards-neatly.
you mention scribing the base to fit on the low windows. I think the straight line along the base should be maintained and would plan towards that. If that meant seeing how a faux sill nose would look, I'd mock that up.
Then I would mock up the higher windows the same and then w/o the sill nose (stool).
hard to see from my house though I'm sure I've done both...........
