I didn’t know there was such an organization: http://www.wspa-international.org/

or such a horrible practice:

CNN teased w/a clip about this, but my local station interrupted.

*I'm sorry, dan. I consider myself to be somewhat up-to-date re animal rights' stuff, and this took me by surprise. Also, I'd like to amend my post: send the people who train the dogs and declaw the bears to the caves!

*Along with the people who go to cock-fights, who go to dog-fights, who set pets "free" on a busy highway (sometimes without even slowing down), who pack 50 parrots in a crate and hope that 5 live to be delivered, or who let unspayed animals roam.

          *Thank you, Phill. ITA.

*You might want to look up the treatment of the dancing bears of Greece, or how the Chinese cook bear paws just right--another form of dancing bear, one might say.On the other hand, we've got battery-raised poultry, veal crates, Premarin "pee lines"...we could stand to sweep our own doorsteps a little cleaner.

            *What's next? Cat juggling?

          4. splintergroupie_ | Nov 27, 2001 12:08am | #8

*Hi, James, and thanks. I did some good shows this summer that kept me hopping to maintain stock and, since summer came late, i had to fit deck-building at the new house in-between trips out of town. First real snow yesterday, so i'll get to know youse guys again!

*I am no activist, but stay up to date as well, Kai. I agree on your suggestion and add that the "state of mind" or "mentality" of people who attend and revel in such events, as you and Phil have mentioned, are equally troublesome.

            *Would you believe...cat "juicing"?

          7. Rob_Rehm | Nov 27, 2001 05:33am | #11

*Joe I tried to teach my cat to juggle but noluck. Any tips?

          9. kai_ | Nov 27, 2001 06:10am | #13

*WB SG :-)And they call this civilization. That word is still ahead of its time some places. Thanks for the link. I will write.

          10. Joseph_Calvetti | Nov 27, 2001 08:38am | #14

*And Bonzai Kittens. And "civilization" = "urbanization". No ethical codes implied.

          11. kai_ | Nov 27, 2001 09:10am | #15

*Joseph! ROFL!! I love it!As for definitions, yeah, "civilization" has come to mean modern conveniences, etc. where none were, or those amenities one finds mostly in developed, urban areas, and, of course, all the ills that follow. If more of us use it in writing in a more "civilized" sense, then that definition may come into favor. Hmmm, somehow, perhaps a new old spelling might help: civilised.

          12. Mike_Gabriel | Nov 27, 2001 08:15pm | #16

*The kind of mentality that participates/supports this stuff boggles my mind. I put people like this in the same category as child abusers-people who inflict pain on innocents.Of course, this crap comes from those vast intellectual societies that think tiger testicles, elephant trunk, or panda poo give ya a bigger hardon.disgustedly yours,Mike

            *That's funny, I thought the same thing.b : )

*I didn't follow the links - I couldn't. I can only imagine the horrors that lie within. I'm with Splinter - I won't buy commercial eggs, and I wouldn't take Permarin, especially when there are more natural alternatives. if I could get soem pasture started, I would get a couple goats and wouldn't buy commercial milk either. We happen to own a breed of dog that is often exploited for dog fighting. I've read many reports from our Rescue team describing dogs with extensive scarring that can only mean they were used as bait in training. One such dog that was rescued from a shelter was in terrible pain, as the creatures that had him attempted to neuter him themselves and botched the job. Luckily the vet was able to finish the job, and put him on serious drugs to combat the infections. Cost our Resuce Fund major dollars, even with the deep discounts from the vet. And after month of loving "therapy" the dog finally came around. I'm glad to report he's in a happy home and well loved now. I only wish they all ended that way.
