I’ve got a HD special shower valve that I went to install yesterday (I know, I know, how many threads have started this way!). I was amazed to find that none of the threaded fittings are tapered. Now I’m not a plumber, so I may be out of it, but if its not a pipe thread fitting, and not a compression fitting, and not a flare fitting, is it going to hold water? I called the company’s tech support, guess how much help they were.
thanks,
John

Okay, I'm a landscape contractor who installs sprinkler systems and not, therefore, a plumber. But.....
you left out one thread type that's not tapered, hose thread. If that's what you've got it won't leak if you've got a washer inside the female fitting.

I did see some female CPVC fittings that had washers inside, kinda wondering now if that's what they had in mind. Even so, can't say as I like the idea of putting a washered joint inside a wall, compared to good old pipe threads. Still a bit mistified, but I'll probably just return it and inspect the next carefully. Thanks,
