open or closed cell in unvented ceiling?
I’m reading for insulation in my unvented cathedral ceiling. The house is at 5000 ft and gets a lot of snow.
I’ve got 2×12 rafters on 24″ centers.
I’m trying to decide between open cell and closed cell foams.
Price is the very close to the same for either option.
The open cell guy says I’ll find out about water leaks before my roof rots, but he’ll do closed cell for more money if I want.
The closed cell guy says he can do open cell, but the price would be about the same for the same R value because of the extra labor to shave the open cell.
Is there a strong concensus one way or the other on the better approach? Is one of them a truly bad idea for some reason?
Thanks.

I have closed cell in my SIP's when dealing with loss of heat thru a ceiling remember when dealing with R value, some is good, more is better, and too much is just starting to really save money.. By using closed cell foam I cut my heating bill $300 a month in spite of twice as much house with three times the number of windows. (same furnace)
I have a ceiling that is 28 feet above the floor yet my ceiling has a temp of only 1/2 degree cooler than my floor is.. that means the heat is being kept in the house well.
Ya know Frenchy instead of trying to find a job selling Telehandlers you should sell spray foam.
And shellac.
