Anybody have experience/opinions about/with Semco casement windows? How do they stack up against other brands such as Anderson, Marvin, Pella etc? Designer is specing them and I had not heard of them so your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Semco Windows
I have used Semco on a couple of projects and found them overall to be a great product. Much better service and support than from some other suppliers. Much better product than Pella and Andersen as they are more marketing companies than window producers!!
Nice detail on the exterior of the Windows and doors, they have made an aluminum window actually look attractive.
I have no experience with semco casement windows, but have had Semco double hungs in a shop and in a studio building for several years. I have no problems in either building thus far (10 years an the shop and 5 years on the studio).
Andersen and Marvin window both hd higher energy performance rating and higher cost when I made the Semco decision years ago. I chose the lower cost and performing Semco because neither building is occupied full time.
SEMCO Windows
We installed 25 SEMCO windows (16 casements, 8 fixed, & 1 doublehung) and 2 SEMCO sliding patio doors in 2003. These are all stain grade interior wood finish with bronze aluminum exterior. So far we have been relatively happy with our SEMCO's and we will likely purchase a few more SEMCO windows and four more SEMCO patio doors to match our existing SEMCO windows & doors when we complete the remodel of our 1979 built home in the Sacramento, CA area.
Our biggest problem has been premature seal failure and hazing of our south facing windows. Although covered by the SEMCO 10/20 year glass replacement warranty, we have had 4 of the 16 (25%) casements double pane glass seals fail and 2 of the 8 (25%) fixed windows have developed a "haze" due to the low E coating deteriorating. Although SEMCO supplies the glass at no charge under their warranty, the labor to change out the glass and refinish the sash is not included. Another problem has been the tarnishing of the exterior polished brass door handle hardware on the south facing patio door.
Sacramento summers are very hot and the southern exposure of the house can take a beating from the sun. I'm not sure if any other manufacturer's windows would have held up any better. I had glass seal failures on Lincoln windows at a house we owned in Naperville, IL where the glass was replaced at no charge by the builder.
We purchsed the wood/aluminum SEMCOs because the pricing was much better than other manufactureres like Anderson & Pella and because they were recommended by the window company who installed them who has since gone out of business. The bottom line is that even with the warranty issues, we were able to purchase more SEMCO wood windows within our budget than we would have with other and they look great both on the interior and exterior.
